Default Garrett Turbo

Good day! I'm a newbie here. I have a 88 930 and planning to upgrade the turbo. I am looking at the Garrett turbo. What model of the Garrett turbo will match my stock 930? And how much will it cost? Part of the upgrades are Tial 46mm, Fab Speed muffler and Evo air intake. Hoping for your input and thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if the Garrett's will bolt up to the stock flange (could be wrong)...you should probably get ahold of Kevin at Imagine Auto...he sells the upgraded turbos along with all the necessary gaskets, nuts, bolts etc that you would need to do the upgrade for a "bolt-on application"....plus he's good at talking you through the process if you've never done it before. Not trying to talk you out of a Garrett....just trying to make it easier for the transition.

Need to know your power goal to determine the correct one.

The popular choice of Garrett is the GT35r although I think this turbo is good for 500bhp. If you're not going that high then a smaller turbo may give a quicker spool.

You need to use an oil restrictor. You can also run oil through the water cooling ports. Do a search on this forum for more info.

It will bolt onto your headers.

Thanks for the replies!

Chuck, thanks for the info. I may consider it.

With the upgrades I'm going to do with my stock 930, probably it would be on the 350-360 horsepower. Would the GT35R be too much? If it is, what would be the better Garrett turbo?

Again, thanks in advance for the replies!

I'd start here. His kits seem like a bargain. I am close to springing for the Stage 2. I had my local P-car guy try pricing all that stuff individually and it was way more expensive. There's a page that show's all the turbos they sell.

I too went with IA's parts.

If you really want a Garrett then do a search here or on Pelican as I think the GT35r is too big for you.

Chuck, did you mean Kevin at Ultimate motorwerks? Just do the bolt in, with a
K27hf. Kevin at ultimate sells them outright or can rebuild a K27. That would seem to be the easiest way to go.

I just went with the K27 7200 upgrade, SSI headers with heat, Tial 46mm wastegate, RarlyL8's exhaust system (y pipe) and the back dated oil lines (SSI also). Brian at RarlyL8 actually put it all together for me and sent it back ready to slap together. His welds and exhaust work are truly art. I bought my parts separately over the course of almost two years from eBay and Rennlisters....you can do it a lot faster and have no mistakes by sourcing it from the same place. I probably saved a bit of money doing it my way, but I also had to do a couple mid-course corrections for unforseen glitches...also known as Oh $hit!!. It was fun....but took a lot of time.

Looks like the GT30r is a good choice for your car.

I run a GT3082R on a 3.3 liter non-intercooled 930 engine, SC cams, all else stock. 300RWHP.
Spools quick starting at 1800RPM.
