Yes that motor is worth that and then some...that flat fan is PUUUUURFECT. BUT since it needs a rebuild, it will be fairly costly to do.
BTW Jim Torres is selling the motor - he's one of the go-to guys when it comes to getting parts that are unobtainium for 935's. If Jim is selling it, I wouldn't question it, he's that good of a guy.

If you factor in the cost of the fan assembly (around $15K) removed, the stacks, plenum, and linkage ($5-10K) removed, you're basically looking at a short block 3.0 turbo motor that is going to need, at minimum, new Ti Rods.
Sorry, I don't get it! $50K, reserve not met, is over the top!!!
Of course, my $0.02

I think the point behind the cost is the fact that the motor has race history behind it - and as such would be worth the ungodly sum to complete the original car that's probably looking for it.
Its not a bargin by any means but if you own a 935, or several as one member here does, with all of the parts from these cars getting harder to find and bought up by Europeans and taken back to Germany...it makes them considerably more valuable.
And I didn't notice the first 3 times I read it where it was saying it was missing the flat fan...that's a shame.

In this economy, who will honestly buy something like this? Sellers have to be realistic, all the trick parts are taken off or missing or deliberatly kept because they are unobtanium.
Sheesh.

I agree the horseshoe casting alone is impossible to come by. I have a friend with a 935 and we have been talking about making tooling to replace the magnesium casting since you can't find them. Tooling costs alone would be close to $10k and then the casting another $2k and machining.
Although if you have or want to build a 935 an original is worth a ton of $$ making parts outrageously expensive.

I bought the 935-84 from Steve Southard and his Sebring winning Coca~Cola 962 . I was supossed to get all the 935 parts too but this motor was never mentioned. I certainly wouldn't have paid anywhere near 50k if it was.
One of my spare motors that came out of the Brumos twin turbo 935 that has more components than this one plus is more historically significant..... this one is missing a lot of stuff.. I don't have the interior fan or horseshoe either but the throttle bodies are there and the twin plug 935 distributor is intact... plus mine is shinier

Curious to know what they charge for that piece. I can make an exact replica of the factory part in cast magnesium. Quality would be better and would weigh considerably less than that.

Wow, that design looks as though it won't work well at all. It would seem that it did though
I wonder why this split the tubes going into the IC rather than the usual large fanning out. Must have helped at low air speed.

Is there anything special about the alternator on the 935? I've been thinking about fabbing a mount based on the AC bracket that would accept a domestic alternator that would be cheaper and easier to service than the stock one.
