I wouldnt buy any 930 to "make money". That said, I see 930s as pretty much completely depreciated at this point and based on numbers I have read, resale values are slowly trending upward.
Large strides in upward value dont tend to occur until 35 years have passed. Cars like the late 60s 911S, 356s, are good examples, along with lost sheep like the 914. The 930 carries a very large and specific place in Porsche history and much of Porsche "panache" for lack of a better word has been built upon the reputation of the original 930. I do not see the 964T and later models occupying that same presence in the model history, and none of the other Turbos have the same "art as design" style and lines as the 930.
I bought mine knowing the car would only cost me the cost of operating it, which justified the hefty price. Id say in another 15 years, you will be pretty happy with what your 930 is worth -- perhaps pushing the MSRP price which is where you really start to call it a current collectible. The downside is they made a lot of 930s -- 15yrs worth. Still a low volume car compared to most of the other Porsches, but not a 911 Speedster kind of production run.
If you like your car, Id hang on to it. The best of times are probably around 2020 from a financial standpoint, which gives you 13 more years to enjoy it for what it is.

Chris,
Thanks for the reply. That's really what I was looking to hear. That's kind of what I was thinking... 930s were an important car for Porsche and really one of the most beautiful in my opinion. I personally think my 993 is the best looking ever made... well, besides a 993 Turbo S, and the 930 the second nicest. So now I feel like I have a great little collection of my favorite cars from my younger days. Some day - a Carrera GT. One of my clients has one of those... amazing power... scary.

I think the 964t will be just as collectible.
As for the 993 I think the 964 then the 930 is better looking. A 993 GT2 is a different story though.
Yasin, that cracked me up, made my day too

I think its a mistake to think of these cars as investments, especially 930s as there were so many made.In 10 or 20 years time the price of fuel and government restrictions on speed etc may push prices down! Best just enjoy them while we can !

i am in agreement with DeWolf. 930s are Icons but there is no telling when prices will accelerate. Driving them is way more fun than any monetary benefit. Also, many cars that are sought after as collectables are not worth the gas for practical driving. 930s are great to drive.

the 930 is not to be looked at as an investment in making money...however, it is a sound way to perserve your investment to the extent that you can drive it and enjoy it while maintaining its value.
not many cars of the more modern era can that be said of!

Collectible
For the last 27 yrs, I've enjoyed every Porsche I've owned (7), and sold all but one (a 73 RS conversion) for more than I had in it. That was not my intenion in buying each car, my love and appreciation for each was the reason. But it sure has been nice to be able to recover the money spent on each one and continue to move up to my ultimate dream, my 930.
So buy the one you like best, enjoy it and wait...
Good luck.

Hey Trader!
I know! But I know guys who won't drive theirs because their intent is to preserve the mileage and all that crap for resale purposes...
Not me...I'm driving mine until the wheels fall off...told the wifey to bury me in it...
Ciao,

+1, I've put over 20k miles on my 930 this past year. I've never, ever tried to preserve mileage on any Porsche I've owned. Buy it, drive it, and enjoy it.

I agree... no car should be looked as an investment opportunity. I believe that to be true even for the houses we live in. Unless we buy something and that something gives a monthly return, it's just one more "thing" that is taking resources away...
What I wanted to know was which would have a highest probability going up in value... Especially with the real estate market going the way it's going... you never know if one has to ditch a few toys...
