Just pulled my front Aluminum S calipers????
Got everything disassembled pretty easily, everything looks good, just curious what the cover with four screws is? What does the little rods on the back of the pistons do? Should I bother with installing stainless pistons, or just leave the stock ones in, I will be rebuilding at least once or twice a year, so is there any other benifit of the stainless other than corrosion resistance?

If everything looks good then why rebuild them once or twice a year??? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." corrosion isn't really a problem if your cars garaged and drivin in nice weather. I took mine apart four years ago, everything looked good, so in went new seals and all back together. haven't messed with my brakes since except for annual fluid flushes and pad changes.

If you take them apart, use some very very fine wet and dry sand paper with brake fluid as a lube and sand down any rough spots on the pistons and cylinders. Clean them good with brake cleaner, new seals, bleed properly and away you go.
BTW. Don't split the calipers and be careful how you take the pistons out.

These are a one piece aluminum caliper.........
I guess thats why they have the access cover with four screws on backside to hone if necessary. But i still cant figure out what the little floating pins on backsiide of caliper pistons are for?? I plan on tracking this car so I will be rebuilding calipers often. Jamie

IIRC the pin was to keep the large piston running squarely back and forth. They are rather large pistons and will twist.
I went with the SS pistons when mine started showing pitting and corrosion. I have the old set that need to be Nickel plated if you want a spare set. I would ship them to you for shipping costs assuming you have a plater to do the plating. It doesn't hurt to have a backup set.

I think Anthony only has the pistons, so don't get your hopes up!
Also, don't forget there is a white grease (brake grease?) that will help stop corrosion outside of the fluid seal.

Yes only the pistons and I recommend Syl Glyd although there are many products.
