Default low mileage 930

Say, I found a 930 with only 30K. I've come to understand this may not be a good thing.... too low a miles? What should concern me about said car?

Try to find some of the past posts about this issue. It's hard to get interested in a subject that has been discussed so many times on this forum. This is not to belittle your question but to direct you to the prior entries on this topic. There are a lot of potential problems with garage "Queens".

Definitely get a PPI done on the car and take a look at the average miles per year from the car's Carfax report. If the car has relatively constant miles over every year since production you should be ok and you not have to worry about seal/oil line rot too much. I bought a '89 930 with 27K miles on it 2 years ago and I too heard the same dire warnings from just about everyone in the "Porsche-know" re: low mileage 930s. The Carfax report on my 930 showed a constant average of about 2500-2700 miles per year so I could tell that the car was being exercised on a fairly regular basis and not, say, sitting in a collector's garage for 5+ years under a tarp. My '89s engine is very tight and leaks literally no oil whatsoever. Those who direly forecast woe and much $$$ engine seal/oil line work assume that you have not done your homework and checked the avg yearly miles via a Carfax report (and are most usually a tad bit green w/ envy at your low mileage find anyway). DO get a PPI done by a reputable Porsche wrench and have 'em check e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. If you buy it - run it, enjoy it and continue to do so. The 930 beast was made to run and run fast (er...within legal limits on the street of course)! Best of luck!

Default Great

Sounds like a opportunity....have the car evaluated.....If you can get the history of ownership and service great.....

I have to stress, focus on the "porsche you found" not others opinions or experiences......Of course there is a lot to learn about upside potential and downside risks from forums...... 930 Turbos are expensive...they were brand new too.....the new 930 Turbo I bought in 1985 was likely my best Porsche of all that I have been fortunate to own.....

Best of Luck

I have a 79 930 that I drive as often as I can.. which means about 4 days a week. and It had only 13K on the car when i got it. It has given me no problems I changes the fluids and pilugs and the furl Accu and it runs great! so i am not only on the boat of the guys that spout off STAY AWAY from low mileage cars... that isn't always the case.. I think it has much to do wth HOW they are stored as well. I say have it looked at and have fun! 930's are the one of the BEST cars Porsche has made, aside from a few in elite company.

I'm all for low mileage cars, its always sweet to see a clean original example at shows, kind of a time capsule, you really see what the car looked like when it left the factory, I just always feel a little bad because you know that cars more then likely never done a trackday, never torn up the backroads, never been used a Ferry intended. After all, I think hes been quoted numerous time saying that Porsches are meant to me drivin. I say go buy it, and drive the crap out of it on weekends.

I've bought a number of older very low mileage cars and never had any problems that were not obvious upon initial inspection. Get a good PPI and go for it!

Agree with the above posts that say don't worry about low mileage.
Bought mine with 5k on the clock roughly 2 years ago. She hasn't missed a beat or leaked a drop of oil in that time.

All the best and good luck with your search.

Dave.
