Default Clutch Options...

So what's everyone's opinion on clutches? I'm at 400 rwhp and 350 ft lbs of torque. When I rebuilt the engine, I replaced the disc but not the PP to save a buck. ( ) I don't know if the PP is tired, I'm over powering the clutch or maybe screwed up the disc loading the car on the trailer one time (slipped it too much and could smell it).

Do I try the early disc and PP again, try a Kennedy or is there something else? I know what a early set up costs? What do the others cost?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, I am next in line. So I can't wait to hear what the masses report. Maybe the Doctor might be able to chime in

I use a Kennedy stage II pressure plate. It's a bit heavy on the pedal but works very well - and the price is right. It is extremely important to adjust the cable (assuming you have the cable model) per Porsche's manual. I drove it around for about a month adjusted incorrectly and thought the PP sucked. So, before I spent big bucks to replace it, I got the manual out again, and made some adjustments. Its been nearly perfect since then, handling over 500 rwhp.

Thanks Don.

Are you using the early disc or a Kennedy puck? What do they run $ wise?

Jim,

I installed a SPEC Stage II clutch and pressure plate on the 930 two years ago. No problems and have been very satisfied. I'm probably around 365RWHP. Track days have not been a problem. Pedal feel is fine.

Have almost 70,000 miles on a 3200 lb Kennedy...use the stock Sachs disc. Problem with a Sachs pressure plate is they loose clamp..fast. Sachs disc is fine. Kennedy also has a 3600 plate. Kennedy stuff is extremely high quality...very nice! I have 206,000 on my '88 930. Always had weak clutches with Sachs stuff...Kennedy is the only answer as far as I'm concerned...just stay away from Centerline...kevlar...935 etc. Mine makes about 350 hp a flywheel....Sachs handles it fine for 20 to 25,000 then starts to slip on boost. My Kennedy feels exactly the same at 70,000 as the day installed...great.

PS Thats Kennedy Engineered Products ....Palmdale, Ca. 661.272.1147 Back at the end of 2004...pressure plate was $650.00 and disc was $212.00. probably a little more now....but very resonable for the most reliable available.

Thanks guys. I don't have but about 750-1000 miles on this clutch since the rebuild, but it's been all track miles.

Talk to Brett (maybe Brent) at Kennedy. He has a customer with a 400 plus horsepower car that has over 3 seasons of extensive racing on the car and has not had to service that clutch...plus the Kennedy is rebuildable

I'll be interested in your decision as well. I have not had any issues (yet??) and I'm running about the same RWHP/Torque.

I ordered my PP and disc from Kennedy today. There were out of the Stage One PP, so I ordered a Stage Two. Same price, but more holding power. The guy said the pedal should feel the same as a Stage One, but heavier than stock.

Hopefully I'll have it Friday and I can swap it in this weekend.

Stay tuned...
