Default rebuild 930 trans vs g50 cost

My 930 tranny is pretty shot and I really want to build up a g50/50 trans for it and really do it right. But Ive heard of this costing almost 10k! So my question is, assuming I am doing all the work myself if i rebuild my 930 trans what would it cost me to do? If I went this route I would be doing all the obvious things, syncros etc. and either regear or change the R&P and install an LSD. I would also do a wevo shifter or maybe some other brand, but i would definately replace the shifter as well. As well as a clutch, but I would be doing a clutch and shifter on the G50 as well.

If i bought a G50/50 or possibly a different G50 with an LSD, shifter, and clutch as well as shortening it to fit what kind of cost would I be looking at? Also I know a G50/50 is more expensive, how much more and is it really worth it, or do the other ones hold up to a 930 fairly well?

Thanks in advance

A G50/50 will cost you north of 12K-13k.5 to do right with a Paul Guard differential, steel synchros and all the related work to make it fit.

I too love the G50/50 in mine. It came with the car, which was one of the key buying points.

I track mine as well, and for longer tracks it's the bomb!

The G50/50 came with the car, along with a host of other goodies, when I purchased it from a another forum member. All I did was drive to Kansas & have Stephen & crew slap the HFS, Kokeln I/C, Tial BOV & modified fuel head on "her."

When I find the time, I'll go EFI w/ IA, as there really isn't anything else left to do for more power in its OEM motronic state.

Lucky me!

Anyone else mind saying what they have invested into their g50 swap? Also what upgrades did you do to them?

What's the 50/50? Is it stock on the 964 turbo? Lexlyf, what parts of MD do your roam?

G50 from Patrick Motorsports, plus Wevo shifter. Great mod. Huge bucks, installed, since I paid someone who hadn't done it before to learn how to do it, basically.

I didn't pay for mine, but I highly recommend the Hargett shifter once you do it! Shortens and tightens up the throw and pattern. Good luck with your decision!

The G50/50 I believe is the stronger version of the G50, capable of handling the higher torque load from the turbo engines. I thought it was only made in 89 but I wait to be corrected. The gearing is TALL and they are just bullet proof boxes. Highly prized (unfortunately for you if you're trying to source or upgrade one).

I did a N/A G50 swap in my car. I did all the work myself except the machining and it cost me $4400. I did no upgrades to the box. I did use a KEP PP.

This is correct, only the '89 model 930 got it.
