Brake rotor help
Ordered rotors for my MY 87 930, after receiving them I then noticed the front rotors look like there 2-Piece??
Will the rotors I ordered work? and if not can someone help identify whats on the car now and where they may be purchased??
Thanks, as you guessed, I am a new 930 owner
Pic 1 is whats on my car now
Pic 2 is what I ordered

The 78-79 are the only ones with stock floating disks (and 21mm spacers) but those do look like floatings disks. Maybe the PO put on aftermarket floating disks. Check the disk/hat height.

Thanks 125shifter
2 in hat height not including the visible spacer....
I would be fine going back to OEM rotors.
I wonder what that would entail if these are inded floaters???

If the solid rotor total height is the same as the floating rotor and hat height, you should be fine. The problem would be if they installed 78-79 hubs along with the floating rotors. Then you'll need different rotors.
I guess the PO could have moved the calipers to use the floating rotors, you might want to check for any adapters on the caliper mounts.

I think this weekend I will dis-assemble a front corner and take pictures of all
the hardware including hubs.
I have no other 930 to compare with so hopefully someone will be able to identify this configuration.

Rodney-
I am pretty sure those are the early (78-79) early rotors. I am not sure if the previous owner put them on or if they were fitted at the factory, I have heard of some special request cars that came with the floaters from the factory even though they were built in the 80s. The good news is that the floating rotors are better from a performance standpoint, and replacements are available (just buy the 78-79 rotors). The bad news is that they are more expensive than the later rotors, they last for years though - Jack Olsen says he has over 4 years and countless trackdays on his floating rotors and they are still going strong.

Thanks Cory, I forgot to ask you bout that the other day!
Not really a big deal staying with whats on there now, Glenn at Pelican said he could get the rotors and I could return the OEM rotors.

The picture posted by rbennett to start this thread looks just like whats on my '85 euro 930. I thought they always used floating disks. There's a set that uses the "standard" rotor too? Learn something new everyday.

Here are some shots with the wheel and spacer plate off.
This is diffidently not Detroit iron under here, everything is massive!
Next step getting the rotor off. The first pic shows what appears to be a locking nut.
The part on the end of the axle with a diagonal slot in it.
If this is a locking nut, do I unscrew it to release the hub or do I have to take the axle nut off to get everything out?
At this point can anyone tell if this is indeed 78/79 rotor/hub?

That is not a locking nut. I would think that slot is to allow you to use an allen key to loosen the bearing play adjuster.
Remove the caliper. Pull of that cap and loosen the allen bolt making use of the slot. Remove the nut and the disc assy should pull off.
