87 turbo, any inputs
Thought you 911 turbo guys might have more to say about this car than my 964 buddies. was looking for a 964 turbo when I came across this baby. have not driven it yet, but tempted to pursue. Not crazy about the BBS wheels. Wonder how the car went 20 years with only 14000 miles. Any opinions would be welcomed on this 911 classic.

Interesting with the low miles. It's very possible that the car has just sat in someone's collection for this long. Of course, you'd have to look (even more) for oil leaks, then. Also interesting are the boxed rocker panels and rear fender intakes. Normally part of the slantnose option, but it's obviously got "normal" front fenders/wings. So is it a "slantnose delete" (which would be very, very rare)? Or a regular turbo that's been aftermarket converted with rear intakes and boxed rockers?
Hard to comment on the price with so little known about the car. If it's truly in pristine condition, and is original, I could see someone asking for up to $10K more than what it's currently listed at. If truly a slantnose delete, it's even more difficult to put a price on that, as I think there were very, very few (just a couple?) made in any year. I don't know if there are any exact production figures on that option. Also, there are always a couple regular '89 911 Turbos with just as few miles listed in the classifieds of Panorama for $60K. I also realize that asking price is not necessarily commensurate with actual transaction price. So maybe that $45K asking price is a more realistic figure. If condition/originality is actually less than advertised/implied by the seller, obviously the price will reflect that, too.

Easy to verify through PCA if the rockers and vents are truely factory. If so, then it is still priced about 8-10k too high. That price is low mileage '89 territory with a 5-spd. If you want an unmolested, stock show car, then it is nice. If you want to actually drive the car a bit, those miles will get expensive, even if you do not have to do a lot of work to dried up seals and other lack of use maintenance.

It's a very nice looking car, but as noted, the miles are very low for someone who wants to drive it. It comes out to about 700 miles a year or 13.5 miles a week for a 20 year old car. Probably has the rubber centered clutch waiting to explode and seals ready to let loose. If you want to park it and look at it, you'll be OK.

Don,
As a comparison, I purchased my 86 w/18k miles back in 2000 for ~$36k from the original owner. Car was (still is) in great condition. I replaced the original tires, 4 wheel alignment, fixed a few leaks and had the engine tuned. Maybe I was lucky, but I've had nothing but good luck with the car. I did finally replace the original clutch @ ~32k miles.
Get a good PPI and go from there.
Regards, Dave

If you are going to have it sit in a collection, it might be fine. But at ~700 miles per year, that car is probably going to have a ton of issues once you actually start to drive it.

The price is RIDICULOUS!!!
$45K for an '87 regardless of mileage. You are getting into 965 Turbo money. Heck a mint '89 with the much more desireable G50/50 with low miles fetches $35-$38K.
I like the color, I believe the mileage, like the interior (although it will be a Bit$h to keep clean), don't care for the BBS and the price is whacky tabaccy.
You're better off buying a car with a few more miles and might score that it has the Stage 1 or 2 upgrades for less money.

I would stay away from the box rockers. Even if they are factory, they look a little boy racer to me.
Good luck on killing that bug.
