That's weird, it was my #6 exhaust shaft that was leaking.

I was gonna say you were unlucky to have the same fault 3 times in a row

My heads are twin plugged although I don't have a twin plug ignition yet. On thetrack after 3 laps, I was black flagged and they said I was smoking. They looked in back and said I was leaking oil pretty good. I pulled into the pits and started the diagnosis with Mr. Brian Keith Smith. Oil was pouring out of the #5 cylinderlower twin plug hole in the lower valve cover. We just had to figure out where it was coming from to get to that point and we took the valve covers off to see if the rockers had moved. The only one that appeared to move was number 6 In and Ex.

The tuner called yesterday to tell me he's having more communication problems with the Motec box. This is getting very old. The box has flown back and forth to California almost as much as I have.

Well, David...that's what you get when you try and save a few bucks by going with Motec over say megasquirt... ...just kidding obviously.

Hope it works out soon. Curious as to why they haven't just replaced the box. Have you asked/demanded?

By the way, how's the kitchen?

David, I have never seen a bad MoTeC ECU, they bench run each ECU on an emulator before they leave Austrailia. Reading back through your posts, it sounds like you had some wiring issues and if wired wrong can cause problems with the ECU and even damage it. Is this a USA ECU or an Austrailian ECU?

I don't know if it's a USA or Aus ECU. They said there are some 5V errors, but they don't show up as errors on the diagnostics screen. I find that strange since the unterminated harness I got had eight 5V wires and the bulkhead connector has 47 pins so everything that uses 5V has its own wire. I didn't splice any 5V or 0V wires, only 12V for the injectors. When I had the issue with the lambda sensor, I traced every wire on the harness to double check it.

It keeps locking up during commucation with the laptop. And this is with the tuner's laptop now, not mine.

The real pisser is I spent the money on Motec so I wouldn't have these problems although at this point I really hope it is something with the ECU and not something I'm missing in the harness.

BTW, I drove the FSCCA car this last weekend and it was a blast. The best time I've ever had in car. I also had one of my worst times this weekend when I drove another friend's mid 80's Toyota Atlantic car (with wings and ground effects tunnels). I had two low speed spins so I just parked it. It really wasn't that bad since the Atlantic car's acceleration was great, but I was pretty embarassed.

Still having problems with the ECU, it's giving a 5V CAN connector error. The CAN connector was already on the unterminated harness when I got it and it checked out OK, but they're going to replace it. I don't mind the delay too much since my garage is full of kitchen cabinets in various stages of finish.

They did go ahead and do the alignment and corner balance. It weights 2766 lbs (it started at 2900), only ten lbs more than my weight loss spreadsheet predicted. After I change wheels and seats I should shave about 80 lbs more but a roll bar and A/C will add back that and little more.

I just got a call from the tuner. He said it looks like the source of the ECU communication problem is a bad battery ground. I think we're both feeling a little stupid right now after all the harness trouble shooting we've done. I'm starting to feel like the end is in sight

I just went back and re-read some of this thread. The first post after this problem started was Geoffrey saying he's only seen this problem when power is lost during communication. I was thinking power to the laptop. I guess I should have looked closer at power to the ECU. If this in fact the whole problem, I feel really stupid since Geoffrey called it months ago! Oh well, I've needed the garage space.

David,
Good news..... sometimes trying to figure out what seems to be a big problem turns out to be a simple fix. Let us know when you get the beast tunned, curious what kinda numbers she puts down.

I've got a cold so I am sick, but I'll be heading down to Motor Sports Ranch Houston to help my boss (actually my boss' boss) at the SCCA races. Fortunately he shares my passion so I can leave almost whenever I want to go over to the tuner's shop. My tuner's been patient with me, so I'm patient with him. I've let him know that it's OK to just work on it when he's got time. On the other hand, I let him know yesterday, that I'm getting a bit anxious to drive the car

What is this, "drive the car" that you speak of"?

Glad it's coming to an end for you, David

I just got back from the tuner's and things are coming along. He got most of the fuel mapped and some of the ignition before we called it a day. He made a couple of pulls at 0.7 bar and it made 390 rwhp with a hot intercooler. I'm hoping for 500 rwhp at 1 bar, but it may be a bit shy of that. Hopefully he can get the rest of the tuning done this next week. It does sound wicked, I'll try to remember to take a video clip next time I'm up there (and ear plugs).
