Very nice work David!

Exhaust looks really clean, it'll be interesting to see how it sounds with the burns muffler.

Is that a Bell intercooler with your brackets? How well does it fit under the stock tail? Looks like what I need with my Carrera Intake and stock tail.

It's a Bell core. I designed the end tanks and had them watercut and welded at work. It's a 25 x 10 x 4.5 core and it's a tight fit. The tightest part is the inlet to the intercooler, I had to cut away about 1/2" of sheet metal on the tail.

Don, when does power start to drop off with the new intake?
I've only taken it to 6500 rpm where I have the TEC3r cut out. According to the dyno sheet, it pulls to 6500.

According to my calculations, I should be at 900 cu ft per min flow WOT. The IC is rated at 1100.

125, Excellent work. I look forward to hearing how it runs...keep us posted.

Did you buy new Cylinders, and do you feel 7.7 is the highest C/R you should use?

Thanks, just taking notes for my rebuild!

Don, I think your engine is bigger than mine so you should have more CFM at WOT but here are my calcs. Do you see any issues?

CFM = CID*RPM*0.5*VE/1728

My displacement is 3367cc or 205.5ci

205.5*7000*0.5*0.9/1728 = 375 CFM

with 1 bar boost the pressure ratio is 2.0 so boosted CFM = 750

Velocity = CFM/Area * ((1/60)/(1/144)) = CFM / Area * 2.4

Inlet area for my intake pipe = (2.875"/2)^2*pi = 6.492 in^2

Velocity = 750 / 6.492 * 2.4 = 277 ft/sec

I used the fully finned 98mm cylinders that were on the car when I bought it. I did have them replated since they were a little out of round.

I wanted 8.0:1 but the heads and cylinders were already complete when I cc'd everything. Actually I was going to use the Mahle pistons I had but they came in about 7.2:1 so I bought the JE pistons. I didn't really want to cut more off the heads anyway because I was worried about the cam chains. In hind sight I would have had the spark plug holes welded up and used 12mm plugs for both holes instead of just the second one. This would have gained more compression.

Hi DonE, just had a look at your rebuild photos. Phenomenal!! I wish mine looked as factory new as yours does! I'm new to the site, and new to the 930, I bought a dark green metallic '86 930 last November with 115T km on it, I shall have to try and upload a few photos and get some advise from you guys. Cheers

Thanks for the information 125. I wanted to go the 3.4 route but $$$. Instead I figured I would go with the 3.3s and JEs at about 8.0:1 or even higher. Who did you have replate your cylinders and do you feel the fully finned cylinders are a necessity for longivity?
I like your idea about higher compression. I want to do the same and maybe lower the boost to stay on CIS. Higher C/R instead of higher boost should allow CIS to remain in place, possibly with the fuel head modification. I would like to make the drivability a little better. Right now it is either nothing or everything as far as acceleration!

Thank you for your input....and again great looking engine, It definitely gets me fired up!

I finally got the engine harness built. I still have to build the ECU and CDI harness. Here are some engine pics with the intercooler off and a pic of the engine harness:

If it runs as good as it looks, you'll have a hell of a motor. Great job.

Fine work on Black beauty. Two years, huh? I guess we have to operate in parrallel with our projects to gets a few project completed yearly(biannually). I mean just regular maintenance and detailing often means need more than one car.

David - That is simply incredible...your fabrication and bracketry is excellent (even thought I know you are very humble about it). I looked at your pics over and over and I am very impressed and envious. The engine will definitely surpass your HP expectations.

Congrats...your 2years of effort was worth it.

David, That looks great. Why the two Map sensors? I assume you are running Motec?
