Default Tid Bit about turbo brackets and a 930 LE

I was doing a little digging in for a PCA question about a 930LE. I thought I would share with you guys.

As we know the 89 930 was the last of the that breed. Before Porsche pulled the plug they created the LE addition. 50 of these cars were made and they carried several standard features as an LE that was only an option in the normal production 930. The car was fitted with rear brake ducts, spoiler and oil cooler up front, skirts, limited slip and 30 more HP.

Whether or not these are RoW only cars I am not sure.

While looking for info on what type of turbo etc I found this little part number 930 123 921 05. This is the bracket they used on the car to fit the k27 7006.

So if some of you are not wanting to weld a bracket you may try giving your local dealer a call and see if they can order this bracket.

The "LE" was a "SE" without the slantnose...big$$$$ Europe only and yup 330hp.

Nice way to say goodbye to the 930 in '89

Ah, the plot thickens!
I think the "up pipe" between the turbo and intercooler is different too.

Thank you, once again, Steve. I find that there may not be enough metal on my 3.0 turbo bracket to cut and weld, so I will order one of these on Monday. If you check, you will see that the 3.0 bracket is unique to the car. (I guess for the smaller hot housing on the 3LDZ for the 3.0?) Man, some of the parts for thsi car are as obscure as parts for a pre-A 356!

If anyone has a bracket from a 3.3 Turbo that they'd sell me, I might go that route - it will probably take less time than the order from Porsche.

Tom,
The 3.3 turbo's used the same turbo as the 3.0, the 3LDZ. If you have the latest PET catalog, go to the Row section for Porsche 911 87-89. The exhaust section wil illustrate the part numbers for the 930S versions vs. the standard offering.
The "pressure line" or up tube from the turbocharger to IC has a unique number as well.

The 3.0 used a different version of the LDZ. You'll find that the part no. for the support bracket is different, too.

Also seems they used a piece of rubber hose about 4" long to join the K27 to this new pipe.

I took another look, and found that the S also uses a different collector j pipe, part no. 930.111.913.00. I guess that this is to compensate for the fact that the hot housing is larger in both directions.

I ordered the S bracket, and found that the only difference was that the turbo outlet is enlarged from 63 mm to 71 mm. The geometry of the bracket is the same. I guess that the K27-7006 has a larger turbine outlet area.

Here's a photo to show what I mean. The brackets are, from left to right, Turbo 3.0, Turbo 3.3 and Turbo 3.3S.

After a lengthy interruption by me pesky daytime job, I am finally getting back to reassembling this thing. Looks like the stock 3.0 bracket, with the mounting holes elongated, and a little bending, will work. We'll see...
