Default head stud recomendation

To much boost had to take engine apart. putting in new head studs. I do not race the car and run around .8 bar boost. motor is a 3.0 stroked up to a 3.5 with 3.6cylinders and pistons. My mechanic recomends 993tt head studs. good or bad let me know.If no good what should i use. thanks John

Do not use 993 steel studs if you have the motor apart and you will keep the car. Even with low boost, I would not use the 993 stuff. I have pics of my engine showing the blowby using the 993 stuff. I now use ARP.

I'm using ARP in my build. Performance Developments also makes a first class head stud...just doesn't come in the pretty ARP packing. I've also heard good things about the Supertec head studs. However, there is safety in numbers and ARP seems to be the top pick...you can't really go wrong with them.

Anything other than Dilvar or 993 is a good choice! Even steels from like a 2.4 can be used at certain levels.

I 2ND THE PD STUDS. I know the material they use is very high grade. Something special no one else is using. It become easier when you only make 1 type of stud. I have used them in several builds and never had a problem. I know some aftermarket parts houses buy and sell them.

There is nothing wrong with the ARP studs either. Very high quality. It all becomes an installation issue really. I have no idea about the others. Sometimes it all comes down to the comapny and their reputation. If they are quality driven, then their parts will follow.

Sandman, How are your parts coming? If I know PD, you will not want to build your engine with them. You will want to use them for display. BTW, have you seen some of the other parts they have and make. I have posted many times what their abilities are, and some of the parts they make. It is unbelievable what they have made and what they have to offer. He needs to stop designing and work on the web page.

I'd love to know your opinion and if you have seen some of their stuff.

Simon,
Yes the parts are coming along beautifully!!!! I think this will be the final week and Neil will be done. I've essentially shipped him the entire disassembled long-block and told him to make it right. He'll ship the parts back to me ready for assembly. Some of the pictures he's sent me leave me speechless! The man is a master craftsman! NOTHING is left to chance...EVERYTHING is measured and documented. He's honest and TOTALLY trust worthy! If it's not right he'll tell you, if it is, he leaves it alone. Don't worry, I'll be creating a formal thread for you guys as I go through my build.

Over the years, Neil has created some incredible solutions from all of the projects he's been involved with. He thinks totally out of the box! His EFI stuff is like WOW! Same for his twin-plug igniton! This is all stuff that he's created years ago and just not pushed on the retail market. I haven't decided if I'm going with Neil's ignition or Electromotive. We'll see!

Supertec rebuilt my original motor. I have his head studs on the motor now. It has about 5000 on the motor. I went to much boost and cracked 2 rings in one of the cylinders. I shut it right down and did very little damage. can i leave the head studs in there and reuse them? I did not damage the cylinders so i am reuseing them.

There is a very fine line between looking like you are promoting a company you admire, and telling the rest of the community about what can be had. I'm glad to see others are now seeinng what I have been telling.

Sandman, I am sure you will be amazed, if not already. The passion, care and attention to detail that is shown towards your parts is something to be admired.

Neil's resume alone is reason enough to seek his services, but I think it was the final bit of correspondence that we had before I employed his services that finally sold me: "...whether it's street or race, right is right..."!!! The very fact that he's one of the nicest guys I've EVER worked with is only gravey!
