Running Waaaaay too rich
Got the car dyno'd today and I am running too rich. The car is an '86 with the following: Andial 3.4l, Andial fuel enrichment, Andial K27 turbo, B&B headers, exhaust and IC. The car has a new OEM fuel dist that was installed this summer. Car runs great and I put down 336hp and 351 ft.lb. However, my AFR was below 10/1 the whole pull for all 3 pulls. My Andial fuel enrichment was set in the middle so I backed it off (counterclockwise) 1 click for the second and all the way off for the third pull. The AFR still did not go above 10/1 while under throttle. Does the Andial unit work counterclockwise? The directions do not say. Maybe I should have turned it clockwise to lean it out?

I would sugget a widewand 02 sensor with a gauge and lean it back to about 12.0 at WOT under full boost. I would consider something like the LM1. You have some good power left in the car with AFRs that rich.

I was in the middle of 2 other cars testing and they had normal AFR's. Also, the car was actually below 10:1. The monitor only showed results above 10:1. You can see from the chart that before I stomped on the throttle around 2300rpm I was showing over 10:1.
How do you lean out a stock distr.? My guess is that when the mods were done by the PO 4 years ago, they were done with the original fuel distr. which was 16 years old at the time. This summer, he had some problems which were solved with a new OEM distr. Is it possible that the new distr. flows much better than the old one and that without the Andial unit, it is still putting out plenty of fuel?
Is there a way to tell if the Andial unit is even working correctly or at all?

Hey Doug,
Wish I could of been there! Should get mine out of the paint shop in a couple of weeks. I was guessing you would get close to 400 rwhp. Could boost preasure have anything to do with it? What gate are you running? Anyhow, dividing 365 by .85 (15% power train loss) gets you 395 hp at the flywheel :-)

The car has a 1 bar spring with stock wastegate.
My guess was to be aroung 370 rwhp. I'm not sure how running so rich affects the numbers, but maybe it is still achieveable once the car is dialed in.

You can turn the fuel head back counter clockwise and see where it is. Typically you would see a CO around 3 % or on a AFR gauge at 11.5. That is what 3% crosses over to in AFR. Then recheck the AFR under the same conditions you were achieving 10s or lower.

Without cams I am not certain you are going to gain a ton. I see about these numbers for what you have. Which is pretty good. I would get a wideband first and check it out. Typically when they start to go bad then can read rich. What were the other people getting that day? I wouldn't expect the HP to go up 10%

The car actually has Webcams and Carillo rods as well.
The other 2 cars that ran were a modified NSX and modified 993, both with S/C. Their AFR's were fine although the NSX was a little lean up top.
I will get a wideband and start there first.

If you turn your andial all the way counter clock wise it is off. Did you record boost? I had a similar experience at a dyno. ...they were about 2 pts afr low (ie: innovate 13, dyno 11). i ended up using my innovate the do the dyno runs. I would have blown up my engine using theirs! The innovate system is good and well worth the $'s. You'll also find how real life afr's change from dyno.
