Stereo interference from fuel pump?
Help please?! Since purchasing my car I've had problems with interference coming through stereo speakers. I have replaced the head unit and upgraded the (OEM) rear speakers but the noise is still there! My local car audio specialist now suspects the source of the interference is the fact the amp is mounted on top of the fuel tank. The noise IS more pronounced when the engine is running...anyone got any thoughts??
The new head unit has a sub-woofer out but I can't find anywhere to fit one that doesn't require major surgery to my (very original) interior. Any suggestions? Does anyone know if the "bazooka" tubes work effectively?
thanks

If you are getting noise when the car is off it is not the ignition system. First what kind of amp is it. Where do they have it grounded. Also what kind of RCA's are you using. Is the noise a whineing that gets lounder when you give the car some gas? There are many tricks to get rid of noise. Good rca cables will not induce any noise. A good shop should be able to diagnoise the problem within an hr. which should cost u 50-75 dollars. If you call me at my shop monday between 10-6 eastern time i will tell you some things you can try to get rid of the noise.

Burning Brakes
My 930 had a dual passive 6" Bazooka tube when I bought it. I pulled it and put it in my truck in place of the the single passive 8" tube. It sounds pretty good. I would definently go with the dual.

Hi JBrown, have been playing around tonight and there is no noise when ignition off. Whistle only starts when ignition is in auxilliary position (dash lights on but engine not running) and no noticeable increase in whistle when I start it or give it more gas (although subtle increase might be present but I cannot hear it over the in-cabin noise from loud exhaust).
Amp is Rockford Fosgate 4 channel ( 200.4 ?? - installed by PO so have no details ) and it's grounded to the floor near the spare under the 'hood'. Don't know what rca's were used. Replacement head unit was Alpine CDA-9826 which (I'm told) was set-up with deck driving rear's and amp driving fronts (MB Quart 2-way component system - no more detail as PO installed).
cheers

offo, turn on system and pull the rca,s out of the amp and see if the noise goes away. If it doesn't that means the noise is not coming thru yr rca's. the 200.4 was one of rockfords amps i am not a big fan of. I am a rockford fosgate dealer too. They were famous for noise. Let me no how it goes when you take out the rca's and we will go from there.

Hi JB, noise disappeared once the RCA's were disconnected...great work Sherlock! Is it any an easy problem for a 'mug' to overcome or should I take it to shop? T.I.A.
