Just bought a '86 930
Yesterday, after 3 months of looking at NA 911's from SC's to 993's, I pulled the trigger on an '86 930, 56.6 kmiles. Very original, very good condition. Bought it in Raleigh, NC, and ten minutes out on I-40, a guy in a red 964 pulled up and waved. Felt pretty damn good.
If someone can tell me how, I'll post a pic later today. The color is Frissian blue, almost indigo in bright sun and sapphire in the shade; black interior. Anyone heard of it? The dealer is a Porsche specialist and repair facility; they had to look it up.
The first of many questions: Apparently, the windshield is some type of plastic or plasitc laminate. It has "Sekuriflex" etched about 4" wide across the top center. Is this standard or common? I'm , uh, also getting used to the transmission, sure like it better than 5 speed 915's. If I'm not careful with rev matching, the 3-2 downshift still crunches, and it takes forever for reverse to spin down in order to engage it. Beyond the usual shift slowly and don't force things technique, any suggestions? Dealer adjusted the linkage as part of $4300 odds and ends work they did prior to sale, leakdown etc. was good.
Glad to be on board.

Jeff,
Yes, it was Motor Car Investments / European Performance, Larry Daniel. Car came via auction through a middleman. Originally in Illinois '86-'02, then Conn. They put it on a lift for me, very clean / no rust underneath. Jimmy Ellison did the work on it, cosmetics, brake pads, tune up, etc., but nothing major. Basically what sold me was that it's a straight and clean original car, so that even in a worst-case situation, major engine work would be justified in the long run. Any idea whose red 964 passed me, twin exhausts and polished wheels? Sharp car.

I'm pretty sure it was Guard's Red. I was so busy trying to beep the horn back to him--stock wheel / couldn't find the button--that I really didn't ID the car other than the twin exhausts. Certainly could've been a 965. This was about 1 pm yesterday.

Is the color Frission Blue or Prussian Blue? I have an 86 that is Prussian Blue ... I looked up the car on Hemmings, looks like the same color as my 86.
Great looking car if I may say so.

Dave,
I thought it might be Prussian, too. Is your color very sensitive to light, varying from near-purple to sapphire to almost steel blue? My guess is there's stuff in there that reacts to UV.
Here's an attempt at pictures. Hope they work.
Thanks,
John

John,
That's Prussian Blue alright and yes, the color of the car flip-flops when in the direct sunlight. I think 1399 930 were built in 86 (mine is 899th), not sure how many in PB color. Great cars, enjoy.

Dave - My car is about #740, don't have exact S/N here, built 2/86. Really appreciate confirmation of the color. The dealership had a couple of small scratch areas painted, and amazingly, the match appears exact.
UDPride - The red car was by me so fast, I only saw it for around 5 seconds before he exited. Most of that time I was trying to honk the horn back at him. Good looking one for sure.
