I know of an authentic black Ruf BTR for sale here in the states. Located in Chicago, a good friend of mine who owns a used porsche shop has it. Check out www.midwestperformancecars.com.

No it won't be a yellowbird, but it is a true Ruf witha Ruf VIN, is plenty fast enough to get you into trouble and a hell of a lot cheaper (carb friendly too).

Thanks for that note, Rob. The car's close ... but it has those side strakes and they're a bit too much for me. I like the YB's slightly widened Carrera body and demure front and rear treatment. I'll look the car over again later. Who knows.

I know what you mean. The owner of the shop had actually purchased that with the intention of keeping it for himself but ultimately decided it was too valuable for him to put on the track and also wasn't completely sold on the side vents. Personally I like them but it is personal preference.

I think your idea is awesome and I think you should go for it. I looked at buying a Ruf YB before I bought my 3.6Turbo but there was no way to get them into the US. I then almost bought a RUF BTR from Sloancars.com but couldn't get that into CA. I think this will be your biggest issue but I'm sure Alois could come up with a workable solution.

I may be drinking the Ruf kool-aid, but I think there could be market for this car if RUF came out with it again. Hey, Shelby is redoing his Cobras after 40 years, so why not a new/old Yellowbird. It would be small market, but if Ruf came out with one, I'd drop a $125K to have it. (Don't forward this to my wife

Talking abt Shelbys Cobras, I just saw it last night on "Rides" where they were building it with a 725bhp monster engine with NOS exactly like the one in Gone in 60 Seconds. It was beautiful and comes with a Ford stamping and VIN number.

Easy, right? Just dump the contents of the box on the garage floor and start screwing it all together. The engine may slow me down a little, so I figure I'd be done in what, five years? I'm kidding ... It'd only take me three.

haha very good! why cant you get YB into the states or cali? is it the emissions or the conversion, its a production car right? why cant you get the engine reworked to solve emissions or is it something else? great idea but ask them and tell US! would great to know- i think they will do another new version one day.... like porsche should do with the 935 make a modern one. best looking porsche ever

Regarding the above, my understanding is that in order to be a US car, it has to be built for the US market. There is and EPA/Dot sticker on the car that shows what country the car is built for. I believe that if it is not built for the US, it is considered a "gray" market car. Some states are looser on this and allow it, but a state representative in CA (BAR I think) told me that there was no way to get this registered in CA legally. If you start with a Porsche VIN built for US, versus Ruf, then you are OK.......as long as it passes smog.

I think if you had a real RUF VIN if would fall under that new technical or historic clause (or whatever it is) that now allows us Yanks to import the really cool cars (that I can only dream of).

Of course the easiest thing to do would be to call RUF in Dallas and get the full scope.

"125," maybe you mean the Show and Display law. It's what people used to use to get their 959, etc. into the US with heavy limitations on road use, etc. The NHTSA has recent info, so I assume the law is still acitve. See: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...t06202005.html

And other than calling Texas and getting sized-up by the sales staff, I'd like to chat about it this project with Herr Ruf himself. I assume he speaks English.

buy the dp935 that is possibly for sale here on this forum and and yes he does speak fluent english...he was in Dallas a few weeks ago when he had an open house for front engine Porsches.
