The case of the red-hot glowing header pipes...

The FIRST mod you do with a cis 930 is buy an on-board wideband. They are so cheap and 930 engines are not! A retarded monkey can install it in 45 minutes.
Beware of any engine builder who even hints against this - obviously, his motives are suspect.
Porsche exhaust pieces (between head and turbo) will glow at idle with afr of 16.5 or leaner - which is perfectly safe, at idle.

Because you do not have an "afr of 16.5 or leaner".

Klaus my brother, you need to go back to school.
Egts only cool on the lean side of stoich when you are ridculously lean - as in about to melt the engine.
On the immediate side of stoich (where your engine will continue to live) you get: hotter above 14.7 and cooler below 14.7.
This assumes that your engine timing is good.
Guys - check out the trick aviation EGT scanner in my avatar - made for 6 pipes too......
Tells you the hottest pipe, or it can sequentially cycle.

Well,
I did that test a while ago on my 81 SC engine. After having all cyl's run evenly of course (equal AFR). EGTs peaked as predicted at 14.7 (stoich) and were noticably lower even at 15.2 AFR.

Klaus
