Default Here Are My Tuning PICS From Last Night

As some of you are aware I just completed the following:
1) B&B headers
2) B&B muffler
3) K27-7200
4) TiAL 46mm WG with 1bar spring
5) Removed absolutely ALL emissions related equipment

With this set-up it was my understanding from research and talking to a few tuners that I would be running right on the very safe edge for fueling on the CIS system....i.e lean!

I decided to ask my good friend Josh who own www.185performance.com to come across and do some data logging on his laptop and using his Innovate LM1 Wideband.

We did over an hour of solid testing and data logging this involved 3rd gear hard roll ons, 4th gear up hill pulls, pegging the throttle and boost under varying loads and the leanest AFR I saw was 11.7 (this was a 6,000rpm pull at 1bar boost uphill in 4th gear - trust me we were flying!) and several times it went down to 10ish. Just to make sure Josh even re-callibrated his Innovate for consistency. So my car is running a little on the fat side... could be that I live in Colorado (6,000ft above sea level).

Both left and right exhaust sides were tested and compared and they were both consistant.

From Stephen at Imagine I understand that you do not want to be past low-mid 12s on your AFR

As an aside after the hard runs:
I put my infra-red digital pyrometer on the heads:
Right hand side: 230F-240F
Left hand side: 250F-260F

Right hand side header temp: 370F
Left hand side header temp: 385F
shows that the Jet-Hot Coating is working and keeping that heat in the pipe and not dissipating them to the engine bay.

The car is running incredibly....and the power is quite savage a little touch of black smoke between shifts only indicating the "rich" condition. I am going to pull the plugs tonight and check them just out of curiousity.

Anyway thought I would share this info and would love to hear back from any of you who have performed similar tests.

Here are the pics:

VERY thorough! I wish I were ready to start engine mods, so that I'd have something to share with you! Oh well. I'll probably just stop after a better performing turbo and wastegate. And I'm sure everyone that's running around with 400 WHP said the same thing! HAHAHA!

Yasin, I think you'll find this article interesting if you havn't already seen it. Per Klaus' suggestion I have my innovate running a simulated NB output to control the frequency valve via the throttle body microswitch. I too was dipping to about 10.6 at full boost. Now at full boost I'm around 12-12.6. I think the frequency valve(15yrs old) can't quite keep up to keep it steadier. At idle and light cruise I've got it set for 14.7 though Klaus recommended going to 15.5 for better fuel economy. To be honest I don't know that I felt a hugh difference and haven't done a before/after dyno but I certainly know it's better for my engine. I need to use up some of that fuel, time to upgrade my 7006 to a HF. Nice job on documenting the upgrades and sharing

Yasin,
Your car looks good in stock trim. What did you set your CO at to get those numbers? Any fuel enrichment or did you just play with the CO? Running abt 11.5 under full boost is good. It's better to run a little rich than lean. However in the 10 region your a bit too rich. However hope this helps, frm Stephen when I asked him sometime back:

What would be the best AF ratio to run throughout the rev band? From idle to redline?
> full acceleration, ideally 11.9

What number would be running rich?
> anything more than 11.5

What numbers would mean I'm running lean?
> under what conditions? cruise - 15 or more, acelleration - 12.5 or more

I dont mind running a bit rich at idle or even throughtout the power band just to be on the safe side

These numbers gave me proper start with cold motor, 14.5 - 14.7 AFR at idle and cruise, and 12.5 AFR on boost. The AFR curve under boost was always a "V", starting at 14.5 from idle, dipping to 11.5 around 3500 rpm, then crept up to nearly 13 at 6500 rpm.

Remember, the rule of thumb is, the lower the pressure, the more fuel you supply.

Be careful setting the AFR as you can melt a piston, punch a hole in one, burn a valve, etc. You get the picture.

Sameer and SoCalMike - Thanks for your replies.

I have not messed with the CO or added fuel enrichment whatsoever.

I will look into leaning it down a tad and definately look at that article by Klaus.

I will check in soon again after some further tuning.

Wow that's alot of "I"
LOL

Word of caution, that innovate 02 bung will shatter from the heat the turbo will create. Ask me how I know?

Thanks Stephen...the O2 was only used for that night's tuning session, and not left in permanently.

Yasin,
you should tune it in the day when it's warmer. Thats when you will need to run a little richer.

Also check your CO just for your own knowledge.
