Default Very Heavy Steering

I recently drove a friends '85 930 for a few laps at a DE event and couldn't beleive how incredibly heavy the steering was.
I have driven 911 for years and have never felt anything as bad as his car.
The car is basically stock with Bistein Sport shocks and Racers Edge anti-roll bars. The tires are Toyo RA-1's.

Is it normal for the steering to be sooooo heavy and if not does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be causing it.

I really don't know how he manages to get through a 30 minute session. My arms were falling off after 15 mins.

Obviously at a stand still, it's a little harder, but once moving, mine feels fine even with the wider tires and a small 12'' or so steerng wheel.

Possibly he needs a different alignment? Were the tire at the correct pressure?

There's no power steering on 930s through 1989.
964C2Turbos were the first time turbos got power sterring.
Also, did the 930 you drove have larger than stock wheels and tires?
If so, that may have contributed to the heavy steering.

Hi guys,
Just wanted you'll to have a look at my friend power steering pump from Smart Racing which he's putting in his 930 turbo. I think he paid more than US$3000 plus.

Hi,

Don't think that I can be of any help on a solution. I also run Bilstein sport shocks but with 225/45/17 Bridgestone RE540 in the front and I don't feel my steering hard at all although I must confess that I am knackered after a track day especially in the arm area.
Cheers
Mo

He's probably running lots of caster. I converted my 951 to manual steering and was really surprised how much the alignment affects the steering effort with the manual steering rack.
