Best 911 Turbo model??
Just as title says I'm gathering info on a 911 Turbo. I'm interested to know which one is considered the overal best iteration. I favor the 993 mainly for looks and sound, but which car is the easiest and most reliable car to upgrade? Minus aftermarket modifications which is the most reliable model? What iteration would you choose if you had the choice and money was no object? Thank you for any input.

If I could, I would get 4 Turbo's:
1) 1989 930 w/G50 5 Speed gearbox - Just love the classic Porsche no-compromise look and crazy driving feel
2) 1994 Turbo 3.6 - Last of the single, kick in the pants turbo's that look so cool
3) 996 Turbo - daily rocket ship since its pretty darn comfy as well as being a missile
4) 993TT - best for last. Everytime I go into the garage its such a joy seeing this car there. The lines, the heritage, the performance and the sound are ALL there.
There are all different cars. You really, really have to figure out what 'Best' means to you. I was cruising in my 993TT when I came up on this 87-89 930 and although my car is more modern, faster and handles better, I was still imagining the fun it would be to be driving that. I wouldnt even think about trading my 993TT for any other model year, but I love them all.

In my opinion, best looking 911T ever is the 3.6 964T, but the 993 TT is a better car as far as handling, performance, upgradability (is that a word?) and reliability are concerned..
Adrenalin rush...nothing beats a modded 3.6 964T.
They're all GREAT.

I think the besting looking 911 Turbo is the 91-92, 94 model years. They just look so good while standing still.
Although, the 993tt is such a nice a**. I love all of the pre watercooled Turbos.

78-79 930. When friends ask me why I bought the 78, I tell them it has "visceracity" - it gives me a visceral feeling of power and acceleration that refuses to be refined. It bites and leaps when the throttle goes to the floor, and I better like where I'm aiming it when the boost comes on. I love all of the turbos, but for a sheer thrill I'll vote for the early breed. After all, that's what the later models were based on!

993Twin Turbo for drivability and performance, plus they have great lines.
87-89 For the classic look and great kick in the seat of the pants.
What do I drive? 86 Ruf-BTR Little on the wild side but love those classic lines and with Ruf magic under the covers it really puts a smile on my face.

I have driven one of every Turbo and I like the 964 3.6 Turbo S for its personality, racing lineage, last of the true monsters IMO 381HP from the factory also availible in Flachbau guise too (how many exist? who knows, I think only 80 S's were made, of those that are Flachbau is anyones guess as the were built in the "special wishes" program.) but that would be my pick, money no object for a Turbo (does the 959 count as a turbo, or in a class all its own?)

You know my answer. As the good Dr. said, see avatar.
However when you talk about ease of upgrading, what are you looking to achieve? The CIS has its short comings but anything can be done with the right amount of money . The 993TT with its all wheel drive has its advantages but a properly set up 3.6T does wonders. The early turbos are great but the 3.6T really takes everything Porsche learned and put it into a single turbo package (pun intended).
Ah hell there all great, just depends on your wants and your budget.

Guy here in Dayton (John Dixon of Taj MaGaraj) has a 964 Turbo S flatnose. Saw it about two weeks ago. I think it has about 5-10K miles on it. Incredible. Not as incredible as his 993TT in Pearlescent white with matching Pearlescent rims though.
Choosing the best 911 turbo is like choosing among your kids. They are all grand, each of them better -- and worse -- than all the others. Dollars and cents kept me in the 930 class but I can vouch that it never feels like the forgotten stepchild, more like the original sin. I grew up in the 80s and so the car is a bit more reflective of me and my style. Very raw, somes very compromising, but thats part of the charm I guess. The car says to me, "Drive me today or I will bust your lip punk."
