Derick,

I have another Chassis you may be interested in. Its is an original 1989 turbo chassis with Carbon doors, fendors, bumpers etc. It is completely bare but most parts are there. all of the Lightweight body work is the factory parts, ot the knock offs. It has big brembo brakes similar to the ones on my new car. There is no Engine or Trans, but I do have another stock 930 engine with Trans that could work. This is a project car, but everything done so far is the best of the best. I can send you photo's if you like.

I hope this isn't OT but what are the real downsides to keeping the torion bar set-up? My goal is similar to Derick Cooper's but with only about 450hp in a 2700lb 930 on R compound tires for DE events. If I use the RSR style front strut to lower the front and retain the wheel travel, combined with large torsion bars, will this be a fast track set-up or are coil-overs a huge advantage? It isn't difficult or overly costly to add adjustable front camber plates, is it?

Thanks

Geoffrey--why not go to monoballs up front and get some helper springs in the back? That should tighten things up fine for more hp

Derick,

Give me a few days to get you good pics. I will however take some quick pics tomorrow and send to you. I make no excuses. This Chassis has been in storage for around 4 years. Seems it has become something to put things in, on and around. At least you get some idea of what it is. The Tub is completely bare in primer. It has a full cage in it and all the seams are fully welded. All the work has been done by professional race fabricators. The Tub is completely original, and I can vouch, it has never been hit. This tub would be one of the stiffest I think you could ever have. The suspension is all there. Its Coil over front and rear with the big race Brembo's. There is a Custom Front Fuel Tank and Front Oil Tank. The doors are Carbon, Hood Carbon, Rear deck Carbon with wing. All of these parts are factory RSR parts. The rear 1/4's and front 1/4's are factory RSR plastic. Front and Rear Bumpers are Factory RSR plastic. I think these factory plastic parts are a Kevlar mix. Some further body work will be required to final fit some of these parts perfectly.
This tub would make a great lightweight street/racer. My intension was to build it as a race car. I just have to many projects going, so it has to go. If you want a project, this is one. BTW, the engine and Transmission going in the black car was originally built to go into this one. I'll send you more pics when I can clean out the Tub proper. I will take you guys up and get you to host the pics of my new project.

E36S50,

It's just my opinion, but what you describe should work just fine (I've had exactly that setup on a previous 930 and it was GREAT fun on the track). Basically, with coilovers you get more adjustablility and tunability and probably better suspension control at each individual wheel over bumps, but on a fairly smooth track, and so long as you don't have so much power or lateral forces that you get suspension bind, the torsions are totally fine.

Bruce,

I'm just not sure what I'm going to do with the car at this point so I'm avoiding putting any more money in the car. It certainly handles well and is a great track car. I use it for development for my EFI projects so it has to remain streetable and it also demonstrates what is possible with EFI on a street driven car. Sometimes I think about selling it and starting fresh with a race tub, other times I'm holding out for a newer 996 cup chassis. Bottom line is this car is too nice to cut up and until it gets damaged on the track, it will remain in its current state. NO MORE MONEY!!! If I did monoballs, then why not coil overs, then why not 935 suspension, then why not the raised pickup points in the rear, then why not a cage, it never ever stops. Bottom line is that the car is driver limited, not mechanically limited.

BTW, I did speak with Chris on Monday. You are all set...
