930 instrument cluster

930 instrument cluster
I’m looking to replace my instrument cluster with new oem gauges but with black faces and made to look close to factory. The ones currently in the car have a white face and I’m not really a fan.
What’s the best source to purchase these? I’m having trouble getting much other than eBay in my search.

Your gauges can be rebuilt with new faces, that is most likely how those faces got there. There are a number of shops that offer to rebuild these gauges. Palo Alto Speedometer is one.

If you own a 930 and the date code on the back of the gauges are correct to your car, then restore them and don’t lose them.

Palo Alto speedometer is a great place for restoring your gauges. I used them several times, and just last week I sent them all the gauges out of my 72 911. Yes, they restore everything: Electronics, faces, lenses, etc. Hartmut is the owner.

He quoted me $3900 for restoring everything back to stock, plus recalibration, and repairing an oil level gauge.
Im hoping they can calibrate the tachometer as well

You simply work them back and forth from the front and pull them out, and then disconnect them from the back. There is a rubber ring/seal that keeps them in tight. If your gauges have been in there forever, it will just take patience, so don’t scratch the face of your dash. I suppose you can Google and find a clever YouTube or PDF How To…Others can chime in.
I will not comment on prices, I will just say that counting my 72S this will be my 5th. time in 35 years to send them cars/motorcycle gauges and this goes back to when Hartmut’s father ran the business. So my own money has been spent with the same guy that I am recommending. Good luck to you.

Here is a very very recent top view picture from my '72 and it should help give you and idea. I pulled out the gauges to ship out. I owned a 930, and I recall pulling out the tachometer to get it restored, and it was basically the same way.
Do you own a slant nose? I would not mind seeing a picture!

Thanks again! That helps as well! Yeah I won this thing on auction recently. I haven’t even received it yet…transporter loaded it today. It’s not all original and I’m fine with that. But it’s well kept and I feel like I got a good deal on it.

Thanks man. Thankfully there’s not much to do…just the gauges, the radio, and the seats. I’ve already ordered a blaupunkt radio. The car has Rencaro seats with 4 point harness but I want to kick that back to stock. Oh, and I’d like to upgrade the intercooler. The engine puts out around 400HP with a 3.3L engine from a later model. That’s really all I want to do to it that I know of.
