Car was transferred to Humphrey VW on Dec 27 1979 and went to the owner on Jan 2, 1980. I have photo copies of the original document including the Importers and Manufacturers Statement of Origin To a Motor Vehicle. So not one of the last 50 but came in to the country very late that year. I was told but don't know for fact that the cars had to be in the country before the end of the year or they wouldn't be allowed in. Sounds plausible, anyone know for sure?
Interesting that your car, 1012, has the adjustable headlight bezels. Here's a photo of 1130 from "Porsches for the Road" with no adjustable headlight bezels.

Here's an image of my car 1164 (circa 1990) right before I purchased it and still equipped with the 85 MPH speedo. It's silver with red lobster interior and a black headliner (was an option but no cost on the window sticker). Did the black headliner change interior colors such as the dash, top portion of the doors, etc.? My car has an all black dash, black rear covering and black door tops. Most lobster interior's I've seen do not have these parts in black. Did the black headliner make a difference?

Witnessed around 6K of the miles on the odo of that 150mph speedo.

Was sold twice at this dealership - new, and w/4k miles - both times as "the last of the final 50", though sans promise of seaworthiness ...

I have 1070 which also has adjustable bezels, small washers. I'm curious what engine type folks have in their later production 79 930, mine has a 930/64, its the factory motor, I do not see this engine type referenced in the red book.

There's a thread on Pelican with a gentleman who just woke his 79 up from an 11 year slumber. Pics show the small headlamp washers and adjustable bezels but no sugar scoop. WTF? Starting to think it was all just random parts at the end

Ok read a few more books, 930/64 is the correct motor type for a 79 930 49 state US car.

Yes, that was my old car. I sold it about 2 years ago to a Chief Warrant Officer.

His 930 has H4s on it, thus no sugar scoops.

All U.S. 930 turbos from 1976-79 and '86 came with the "sugar scoops".

From the photo in the book, I noticed some imperfections on one of the highlight bezels on 1130. The dealer/owner may have filled the holes with body filler and touch up paint. So, perhaps the adjustable headlight bezels were added about the same time as the 85 MPH speedometers and flush headlight washers?

I am talking about the bezels. ROW cars had euro bezels (thinner than sugar scoop) and different color tail lens. The lens that fit the euro bezels are a different lens than in the sugar scoop. That is a fact.

It was my understanding that #1200 was originally sold new at Hinsdale Porsche Audi - told to me by one of the old mechanics that worked prepping it for delivery. That dealership was sold to the Napleton family many years ago and no records exist , as far as I know. That's a great scene......
