1989 Turbo Coupe looking to purchase
Just want to get some advise. I had an 86 930 back in the 90's. Ahh the good old days paid 25k for it. After that had numerous water cooled Porsches, a Viper GTS, and a few other cars after that.
I ran into a dealer selling 1989 930 with 80k miles. I drove the car and was impressed how nice the g50-50 improves the drivability compared to the 4 speed. The cars is very nice interior and paint wise, of course I will get a PPI before going forward.
Since I have not been watching the 930 market to much is 115k sound fair for the car.
thanks

$115K is on the lower side of the market for an '89 based on what I have seen. And I am not a dealer. So just do your due diligence. Price must reflect the mileage, since most of the people buying the '89 are buying to collect.
If you don't need the 5-speed, you can very likely get better cars ('86/'87) for $115K.

My understanding is the 930 4-speed gearbox was developed originally from the 915 as a racing gearbox for the 934s and/or 935s and then used for the production Turbo cars. The Carreras got the G50/00 5-speed earlier because the G50 was yet to handle the power of the Turbo cars. In '89 they figured it out and came out with the G50/50 for the swan-song year.
Having had an 86, you know all about the 930 gearboxes quirks so no sense rehashing those. The G50/50 is probably the better around-town option.
My advice is buy the nicest 930 you can afford, tranny aside. Let condition and recordkeeping dictate. These are old cars and even the 89s are based on the same early 1970s technology as the 75-88s. That means it drives very much like a 50yr old automobile in spite of its VIN. Buy condition and recordkeeping. If that means you also end up with an 1989, you win twice bro. Hard to say on the specific car you mentioned. Its all in the inspection and fine-toothed comb digestion. Every car is different. Ive seen 25,000 mile 930s that look more like 125,000 mile cars, while 140,000 mile cars look like 14,000 mile cars. Who had the car before you is 90% of the equation. Based on what you said however if the car was indeed a 8.5/10 or better, $115,000 sounds like a bargain. Of course, one mans 8.5/10 is another man's 5/10 so its all subjective. Youll know when its "the one" and you're driving home with it no matter what.

Take a look at the Fikse-Fuchs 17’s. I ordered a custom set some years ago and very pleases with the quality, perfect fit, and looks.
