Default RS 3.8 wing vs. Whale tail

Other than the great look of the RS wing, what performance differences are there vs. the stock whale tail? Let's say street vs. track use. I would assume it would be a waste for street performance?

Thanks,

Brent

Hi Brent:

It really depends on how you drive,....

A Turbo tail provides lift cancellation and a very light "tad" of downforce; the RS wing actually can make very good downforce and gets even better with a Gurney Flap,....

The differences are quite large from 60 MPH on up so you can decide what you might use.

I have the rs wing on my 87 and just changed the front because I added an oil cooler. I find the downforce is greater with the wing and more balance with front change. Plus it looks cool.

Brent,

What kind of wide band did you get and where from?

Also, I just learned don't press the submit button more than once. LOL

I got the UEGO 1000 wide band, it's a fully assembled 3 piece system, wide band O2, brain and display from Lindey Racing. Clewette eng. also sells it and got good reviews. I highly recommend it in conjunction with an EGT to tune your own car on the street or track. The cost is $549 plus shipping which is a great value for a complete wide band system. Plus it fits right in my center vents since I don't use A/C anymore where I can see it while I'm driving. Hecht, the display is so big my friends know what my A/F is from 20ft. away.

Brent930,

Pardon my ignorance but what is this UEGO 1000? Isit to check the a/f ratio? I thought the normal a/f gauge with led lights will do? whats the difference between the 2 and do you have any pics of the UEGO 1000? Where did you buy it from?

It's an affordable wide band O2 system, funny how not many turbo guys use these things much less dyno there cars to know there A/F curve. The wide band is way more accurate and faster responding than any narrow band O2. With a turbo car things are happening very fast and a wide band responds fast also but it's never going to be 100%. Go to www.lindseyracing.com and check it out. Though I know my car well, after installing it I changed the mixture and idle adj. to tune it for street vs. the dyno. I love this thing)

I agree that a wide band is the only way to go. The cheap, 100 dollar models just aren't up to it.

My buddy built his own 40 LED wide band. Uses a Honda O2 sensor and works like a charm.

Now if he would just build me one

I just purchased a wide band from http://www.innovatemotorsports.com. If your in the market and want a portable instrument that can be moved between cars, its worth a look. It gives real time readout and downloadable files to a laptop. Basic unit is $350, but accessory cables likely required. Too freak'n cold to try it out so far around here.

Seen that one but for $200 more I have it in my car all the time) What your car says one day doesn't mean it will be that way the next day. You really want a permanent one in your car so you know when something changes. If your running CIS like I am things change from season to season.
