Default 993, 996, 911?

Ok I'm new to Porsches. I was just wondering what the difference between a 993, 996, and 911? They all look the same to me. Is it engine size or what? Please enlighten me on this subject. Also I'm in the market for a 914 or 911 to restore. What is a good site where I can buy a project 911 or 914?

Thanks
JP

Yeah, i see what you mean. It seems old VW bugs look a bit like these cars. Similar engineering also. Kind of makes you wonder why anyone would ever bother... well at least the chicks like them.

Yup, there is no real difference. The numbers designate what color they are. 911 is red, 993 is silver, and 996 is black.

I am sorry but I have to disagree

The 911 is not only red but is the fastest one as well.

The silver 993 is more of an SUV.

And the 996 is marketed as a station wagon.

Default Cracking the Code

Obviously JP needs the rosetta stone to unlock the system...

first digit '9' designates where... Germany
second digit designates body style... '1' small/ sport, '9' big/ wagon-SUV
third digit for color... '1' red, '3' silver and '6' black.

I guess Volvo cars are similar...
'8' for how old you need to be to drive one
'5' for the IQ of the driver
'0' for how much good information anyone on this Porsche board is willing to give you.

Seriously, don't let the regulars scare you away.....

They are the same. Back in the late eighties Porsche didn't order enough "1's" so they had to change the designation. In the end they only had "9's" left... see the 6 at the end of 996 is really just an upside down "9".

Yes they are all the same. Porsche has decided not to use "911" anymore since the attacks. Then they made a new name called "993". Well, some Porsche guys compained what the "3" is all about since the cars have flat 6's. That's when they changed the name to the current "996" model. Hope that helps.

Projects cars are normally found in restoration lots. Ask your insurance company since they usually sell ready to restore cars.

Strangely enough in '93 (993) and '96 (996).

JPigg34,

Thats not right at all.

993 attracks only red heads for free sex
996 attracks only brunettes for free sex
911 all all the above plus 2 blondes and a midget for free sex.

LOL...
