Interesting Porsche buying experience and glad it worked out for you. Thanks for sharing your story.

Tinting: I am not a fan of tinting aircooled 911s, but its your car do what works for you, and it 's reversable at any time so really not a big deal.

Enjoy.

Personally I Would never put leds on a classic 911 but tinting might help protect the interior from uv damage no ?

About the H4's ... is there a preferred vendor and make for such? Is Bosche the way to go? If so where to go for them? What about the relays? I hear they should be added but im not sure.
I wouldn't tint the windows. Makes the car tacky in my opinion. On some lame sheeper with a wide body kit or similar, sure why not, it's already bad enough, but your car seems very clean, comes in a classy understated color. I'd leave as is.

Anyhow congratulations on the purchase. Without a doubt you paid through your nose, I bet you the dealer wasn't into the car for more than $35k.

That's what happens when you buy at a dealer, any dealer. Ask me how I know. My 996tt was the flip of a flip and the '74 was the flip of a flip of a flip, with a massive premium baked into it. Now I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than buy anything from any dealer ever again. Nonetheless, looks like a very nice clean car so drive the **** out of it and enjoy!

Everyone says I paid too much, but maybe lots have changed. Been looking for 2 years now and this was one of the nicest and most appro price considering miles and comps. I paid $52k and I know it was bought for around $49k as I missed buying it by a couple days. I love it though.

Default 1978 911SC Window Tint -- Please, No

Sher-
Tint film (installed on the inside) and the rear window with it window defroster wire lines which are on the inside of the window and not imbedded in the glass are not compatible. If the tint film is moved in installation or removed at a later time one risks breaking those "micro" defroster wires running parallel across the glass. Both of our 1978 SCs have lightly factory tinted window glass. Up grade your A/C (there are some good threads regarding A/C up-grades) and please forget the after market window tint, especially as to the rear window.

As to H4s or H1s (55's in both of the H1 bulbs) headlights, both cars were driven for years with both H4s and H1s before inline relays on both SCs were installed to the headlights. Frankly, the inline relays are a comfort factor as to the electric draw, but the quality of the resulting lighting (even tho I would like to believe it has -- given the conventional wisdom), doesn't appear to have changed in my IMO. This opinion is subjective, and no light metering has been done. Enjoy your SC, Type 2

Yep, Sher, for H4s, John Audette is your guy. See here: http://www.audettecollection.com/

John is an artist... the H4s that he restores are the real deal (German) and they look like jewelry on your car. You may have to get on a 'wait list' like I did, but, believe me, it's worth the wait.

Ha I know. My wife still hasn't been told it has no AC. Lol. We have her car though. I hardly used my ac in all my previous cars, but there were days ... I will keep some shorts and tee at work for summer drives home.

Default You own a beautiful 911...

... that and its excellent condition are what matters. Honestly, how much you paid is nobody's business but yours. That's why I refrain from revealing price details online... too many "experts" with opinions that don't really matter.

Enjoy the car. Life is short. Drive it.

Thank you! I only stated what I paid because people assume I paid asking. I am curious where people expect to find an example like this for much less than I paid? I think that time has passed, but kudos to anyone who does find a better deal, for me I knew I wanted a low mile early example in silver or black with all the deletes this one has. I agree life is short and to enjoy NOW! Cheers!

Default original ad

I happened to find an article on the web regarding the car I purchased. As I said before the PPI found no trace of tell tell lines to indicate an upgraded tensioner. I was looking for the original ad to see again how it was worded.

http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/197...911sc-coupe-2/

Still interesting. I am waiting on call back from previous seller to discuss what was actually done and by whom. This car came with a certificate of authenticity. What exactly does that prove/mean?

COA:We are pleased to offer you a Certificate of Authenticity for your Porsche. This unique document includes your vehicle’s original factory-installed options, exterior and interior color, engine number and transmission number, production completion date (Birth Date) and manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), dependent upon availability of information. Only vehicles produced for sale in the US or Canada are eligible for North American certification.
This Certificate can prove to be invaluable for restoration, resale and for displaying your Porsche at official Porsche concourse events, such as the annual Porsche Club Parade. Certificates do not include production number, selling dealer, previous owners, warranty history, standard equipment or technical information.

They are not always accurate.......

Car was advertised as having a "$10k engine service by Marque Specialist including upgraded tensioners and head studs" The question I have is who was the Marque specialist and where is the receipt of services performed?
