Must be rennlist for comments like that...

Awesome build, nice tribute to OEM. Don't see that often. Thanks for sharing!

Its the only car in my stable that's stock. Trying hard to keep it the time capsule it is!

Should be done this week, all the bits back from plating, etc.

looks like a great build . Looks nice with the build with gearbox already attached . I didn't have the room so had to attach the gear box at the very end. it was like wrestling a friggen bear. I have some leaks and my rocker shafts after about 5K of driving so I have my next follow up project. I replaced a lot of the same stuff you did . Well, except the clutch

Yours looks great.

It's getting close. the plating took a week longer than expected, but knock on wood no surprises as its going back together.

I was relived that the sort of common issues are OK on this one... rocker shafts good, valves were in spec, studs ok, trying to check play on the intake valve side guides seemed ok, etc. She burns about a quart every 1500-2000 miles so I think it's alright for a while.

I was 1/2 expecting I'd need a top end job. Relieved not the case right now.

Man, how come my shops never send me photos of the bad bits and spec sheets of the parts going back in? I can barely get them to tell me what type of fluids they used.

I used a type of waxy corrosion prohibitive to replicate the cosmoline color of the original fan, which is aluminum. It fades of course, but when the fan gets dirty, you just clean it up, and re-spray. Presto, restored color to original.

The fan shroud is magnesium. Go very carefully on it because the metal is extremely porous.

I would have just replaced the injectors.

Check the distributor for radial play along the bushing and shaft. Have the distributor rebuilt if there is any perceptible play. Porsche used to rebuild them, don't know if they still do.

Those injectors are $350 each from Porsche or $50 each or so for reman ones. Having them rebuilt, balanced, and flow adjusted was less than $200.

Distributor is fine, no play.

Fan and housing will be clear coated and natural look.

What is the product you used? (Cosmoline like)

$350 EACH?!! You have got to be sh***ng me. Good thing I vacuum sealed my old ones, they are like gold now. I would probably not buy the ones that say "Porsche" on them. Same thing with spark plugs.

I'll have to snap a photo of the stuff that I sprayed on the fan and post it here.

yeah that cosmoline looking stuff is awesome . I would like to do that too ....

Spyerx I had a similar situation . My machinist refused to do any work on them , said it would be like a doctor cutting into a healthy patient. He just cleaned them and put new seals in them , didn't even have to fly cut. My studs were broken which is what started the whole adventure but like you I burn MAYBE a quart in 3,000 miles ( 5,000 km )

One day in the summer ill take my distributor out and do a refurb , its about a 2 beer job while watching a ball game, you can buy a kit with the bushings.

??

You mean the torn label? I ordered two cans, and for some reason can't find the second can. That one had the messed up label when I opened the box. I think it was around 6 or 7 years ago.
