Default First time Porsche buyer needs opinion

So I found a beautiful color combination for a '99 911 Carrera 4, dark blue exterior, black dash, brown leather. The IMS bearings are in the process of being taken care of by the owner and the rest of the car is in good shape mechanically. But a PPI inspection revealed the entire car has been repainted. On top of that it also has a decent scratch down the driver's side... so it's not exactly in mint condition even with the repaint. My question is this, would it bother you to buy a car that's been repainted already? Will this decrease the value for future resale? The news doesn't sit well with me, but I'm not sure if I'm over-reacting because it's my first Porsche. Thanks!

A '99 is a 996. Try that forum. 996s aren't always the most sought after models compared to 993s, 964s and 911s.
Did the current owner repaint it? If so, why? Accident(s)?
I would probably pass without a documented reason. But that's me.

Thanks, I'll check out the 996 forum too. I have that question out to the seller... he's owned it for 4 years, and based on the current condition of the exterior, I'm guessing he didn't paint it. PPI and Carfax shows no accidents or issues with the frame. But I'm sort of in the same boat of wanting to pass it up, but man it just looks classy.

Are you getting a discount on the car because of the respray and scratch? If so then don't be surprised when the next owner wants a discount.....Ya know.. then again, why worry about resale? It's a toy....At least mine is. Have a PDR painless dent repair guy look at it. He'll be able to confirm the paint issues and tell you if he can hide the scratch.

Thanks for your input. The seller wasn't aware of the respray... so the car is priced competitively at this point (especially since he's in the process of doing additional mechanical fixes). We haven't talked price, but I agree, that warrants a discount. The 'it's a toy' discussion is exactly what we're having, but we're looking at other color combos, with similar prices and weighing our options...

It is a 996. It cannot get any worse in value.

You should be able to find a clean original clean car within your price point.

IMHO - You are not overreacting, it would bother me and yes the repaint will hamper resale down the road. I would look for another car.
