Lightbulb Buy 911 in Canada and import to US? (low Canadian dollar)

Hi,

First I'd like to say hi, as this is my first post on Rennlist!

I'm currently in the market for a 911 GTS, and will be based out of Seattle, WA in the next coming months, so I just had a look at the list prices for the new GTS, and there's an interesting opportunity to take advantage of the low Canadian.

The list prices are:
  • Canada - Porsche 911 GTS 2017 (base) - $136K CAD/$103k USD
  • US - Porsche 911 GTS 2017 (base): $119 USD

A 16k USD saving by buying the car in Canada, and this saving grows as additional equipment are added.

This sounds too good to be true, so I have a few questions:

1) Has anyone bought a new 911 in Canada and exported it to the US?
2) Is a car eligible for PST/GST tax exception when exported?

Thanks everyone!

/k

I causally looked into buying a used 911 in Canada a few months back. Found the import taxes and brokering was going to a PITA so decided against it. Maybe buying a new vehicle is different but I suspect the USA or state will want it's import tariffs and/or tax money. Good luck!

Porsche will not allow its dealers to sell a car to a non resident. A "no-competition" thing. You can get around that by buying a used car (demo).

You're posting in the wrong section...this is the 911 air cooled section. Search and you will find the proper forum.

Instead of speeding over $100k on the latest Porsche computerized bling, why not buy a classic air-cooled beauty?

Thread killer...

And I doubt the warranty will be honoured in the US - more and more car companies no longer provide warranty on out-of-country cars

vetiver is absolutely correct. My son has a BMW store in Seattle. They're not allowed to work on Canadian cars with American registration.

They also have to report those cars to BMW. BMW then fines the Canadian dealer for selling the car to an American.

I think you should ask directly your dealer in Canada if they deliver in Seattle, WA.

There was a thread in OT about a month ago about someone shopping for an Infinity Q45 who found the price to be radically discounted in Canadia vs the US.

I sold a GT4 to a buyer from Florida and Porsche does honor the warranty as they are global warranties.

http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...tion/warranty/

"Warranty can be claimed from any Porsche partner across the world."

Just find a dealer that will sell to you or get someone like me to buy it for you then sell you it so that it can be imported...

6 Months or 1000 miles and you have to be the second owner. Its a big no no for a franchised dealer to sell out of their country before the 6/1000 thing. There are always exporters from the US looking to buy Cayenne's and ship them to Russia and China where they're much more expensive. Any dealer whose cars are caught in Russia or China risks a huge fine from Porsche.

You're not going to duck any taxes as you'll have to pay the sales tax in the state you're going to register the car in.

I believe there is a 2.5% import tax too.
