Default BBS RS selection help

Shopping for a new set of wheels for my 88 3.2 and have landed on the BBS RS. I'm having a hard time sorting out the wheel specs and history against what I'm looking for. I would like a 17x8 front and 17x9 rear. It seems to me that this was never offered in a fitment for the 3.2 and the 964 variants offered would not be ideal. That said I understand you can use 16" centres and have 17" wheels built around them. I believe I need these centres:

Front: RS056 8 x 16 28.0 130.00 5 71.6
Rear: RS014 9 x 16 11.0 130.00 5 71.6

So, can anyone confirm? any experience? Is there a website (perhaps another forum) which has a write up on the BBS RS wheel history and fitments. To what shops would one recommoned building up these centres into 17" (to note, I'm in Toronto, Canada and local is preferred). Finally, where best to search for used centres? I'm just watching the forums but not sure if there is somewhere else I should try.

Going for a look like this using the RS:

Putting Bill Verburg's name in front of any wheel fitment search will reveal a goldmine of information. He is the encyclopedia on all things wheels and brakes.

Thanks very much. I'll poke around his post history. I saw that table posted in another thread but unfortunately absent of the BBS RS. Seems like perhaps it only applies to wheel you could purchase at the time or were oem at some point.

By the way, your vid of the bisimotto pusle chamber put me over the edge and I'm ordering my own!

Scott.

The Pulse Chamber is SICK!!! Can not explain how much energy and enjoyment it adds to each drive. Transformed my lowly cab into a raw machine bent on pleasure. The audio input is well worth it.

(About the burnout.....I don't recommend dropping the clutch without some serious shocks)

If anyone is looking for a detailed guide on wheel fitment and spacing, check out the below link. Very comprehensive and overall interesting.

Keep us posted on what you find out Scott. I want to build a set of 17 RS for my car aswell. I'm restoring a set of 16 BBS Mahle at the moment, while I source the right centers for a 17 build.

These are BBS E50's. The centers are a magnesium alloy. The same centers can be used with any 15"-17" BBS 20-hole halves. While used as street wheels all the time, generally speaking they are track wheels.

These are BBS RS's and are aluminum street wheels. The come in different sizes, but generally speaking, without custom parts you can't go from a 16 to a 17.

The wheels will fit fine, for tires you will want 225/50 or 225/45 front and 245/45

if you went to 17s w/ otherwise the same specs you'd have a better choice of tires, for 17s you'd want 225/45 & 255/40 or for a lower car w/ better gearing but a bit less cornor grip 225/45 & 245/40. note that these last set will have the ~ the same OD as the 16s, the 255/40 will have the ~same OD as 225/50x16, ie ~.2 -.3" taller

This chart shows the available space for wheels on an SC/ Carrera

Here's another way to look at SC/Carrera wheel fitments that work, fronts are 6, 7 or 8, rears are 7, 8, 9 or 9.5. The outer edge of the fitment envelope is represented. Whether the wheel is 15, 16, 17 or 18 doesn't make a difference. Tire width and height when mounted on the wheel and car does make a difference. Front width of 225 is easy any increase from there is exponentially more difficult, rear width of 255 is easy, as on the front, increases are more difficult. Shorter tire height is better for gearing and fitment, 25" OD is a good cap, shorter is better and taller is worse for multiple reasons

Thanks all for the info. Still watching the forums for a set of RS's. Anyone know a company that hoards these and rebuilds? Perhaps I'm a little impatient but would rather get them then wait.

Thanks,
Scott.
