Default Need picture of rear fog lamps

I want to convert my rear reflector on my 81 911SC over to the european reflector (87-89) that had integrel fog lamps. I currently have the original with black Porsche letters (that I plan to keep), but I like the idea of more visibility from behind in inclement weather.

Does anyone have pictures of this reflector with the lamps "on"?

This is the reflector:

Any Rennlisters in Europe or England with a digital camera and five spare minutes?

Can a pre-'87 rear reflector be modified to house foglamps? Will you be fabricating the bulb socket and reflectors?
Also, do the '87-on reflectors (U.S. models) come with the foglight housing built into the reflector?
I would be interested in this mod too, if it's do-able.

thanks

Mike,

This reflector was standard on all ROW 911's from 87-89. I thought about modifying my reflector, but it's in great shape and I believe the "black Porsche letters" reflector is no longer available new. The one I want to purchase is already set-up for two rear fog lamps -- all you need to do is add bulbs and connect to factory wiring for rear fog lamps. If you go to this site and scroll down to "REAR REFLECTOR UPDATE", there is a detailed description of what need to be done to fit the new reflector.

It does involve cutting two square holes in the panel behind the reflector to allow space for the lamp housing, but no big deal. I think it's far neater than the old "bolt on" lamp -- although I've considered this option because of cost and originality. I have not decided which I will do.

Todd,
Thanks for the info. Do you know of a source here in U.S. who sells these ROW reflectors? I've never seen these mounted on any cars here (and living in L.A., I see 911's every day), so doubtful that i'll find any at a swap meet soon.

Were you planning on buying one from Type911?

Thanks again

Mike,

Sorry about taking so long to reply. The OEM part # is 911-633-123-01.
Pelican Parts list it as being "available", but it is a special order and may not be easily found. Also, the price is $535.48!!!!!!!!!! In the UK, it is 200 pounds -- I don't know the exact exchange rate (I'll look it up later), but that is roughly $300 US.

I've decided to wait on this upgrade. If you gather any further information, let me know.

$535???? I can wait too. Maybe we'll get lucky and find one at a swap meet or something.

Thanks for your help.

Todd--
Any idea how this gets wired? I'm guessing that since the fogs are in the front, a wire has to get run from the switch back to the lamps? Or is there a wire somewhere in the engine compartment that can get tapped into?
I too have been considering adding the bolt-on below the bumper fog lamp (I've already added the 3rd brake light to try and make the rear end more visible)
thanks

Steve,

Your car should be pre-wired from the factory. If you stick your head in the rear driver's wheelarch (do not do this while the car is moving!) and look back towards the bumper, you should see 2 wires bundled up with plugs crimped on the ends. These are the hot and ground controlled by turning your fog light switch to the right. If you don't have these factory wires, let me know and we will discuss wiring from the switch (possibly with another relay).
