Rusnak the nut as above will not help you I don't think if you destroy the stat . you cut of the nut to protect the threads stat, then use the new nut.

I just did this whole thing and feel stupid I did not take pics.
I am busting my brain here to remember the name of the company that came up with the "Thermostat Saver". It was one of the tuning houses. It'll come to me. I remember Chuck Mooreland sent me a prototype years ago. It was a trick looking anodized piece. Anyway, you can buy them from Automotion. Then, you would use Chuck's special nut. If there are any threads left on the thermostat, you put some teflon tape on the them and sort of pray.

Could have been TechArt. Not sure.

I've used the sort of prey technique before
It's surprisingly effective.

Heed the advice here-I'd not drive it, as Steve notes, that would be VERY expensive if it lets go.

I just replaced the two oil lines leading to and from the external thermostat. The shop that sold me the lines told me that if I strip the thermostat they have the fittings to fix it. If you strip your thermostat send me a PM and I'll hook you up.

EDIT: I think Rusnak is talking about the same thing.
