this is the info about the car that i got... so i would assume that they have done the checks on this car or they wouldnt be stating to me that its not a 230hp model...

I looked up the engine numbers on the PET:
Engine Code/Serial #
930.21/64E, 64F, 64G are rated at 152kw (207hp?)
930.25/64H, 64J, 64K are rated at 160kw (217hp?)
930.20 & 930.26/63E,F,G,H,J,K are rated at 170kw (231hp?)
I'm guessing that
"63" = high compression
"64" = low compression

Well i asked for the further info and when i asked i found out that someone has put a Deposit on the car to hold it. so i cannot get further informaiton about it until that deal falls through... (Sucks) so im off to find a new one to shop for in the Lower Mainland area (B.C Canada.)

uli, not sure about Canada, but in the U.S. all emissions equipment are required by Federal law, however it is up to each individual state to enforce the requirements. Those states that do, have an inspection once every two years, and that is when those owners who do not normally have a cat, install the cat just for inspection and emissions testing, and remove them afterwards.

if the car origionally did not come with one, then you can run it without one. but if the car was supposed to have one and shipped that way, then Legally you have to have it....

Did (all) the 1984 carrera 3.2 originally come with a cat.conv. to USA / Canada ? Or had there been some without these days?
Is it possible to import an older car to USA without cat.conv. today?

Not all states require a catalytic converter. In Texas, you are required to meet the emissions test - if you can do it without a cat installed, you still pass. My '83 SC, which had a cat installed with its stock engine, is currently running with an '84 Euro engine without a cat. After much testing, it made it through emissions without a cat.
