911 1988 - Stalls or wont start
This is for a friend - 1988 911 Cab - Car sometimes starts only to shut off after driving for a few miles.
He has replaced the fuel filter and all fuses are fine (fuel pump fuse, etc.)
What else can it be? Fuel pump going bad? This is somewhat our of my league since I've never had fuel problems with mine (we think is fuel related).
Help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

I have asked him to check for bad connections to the fuel pump. And to also check the DME relay (would not hurt to replace it anyway).

Maybe try a compression check??? just a shot in the dark...
How long ago was his last service?? does the car run fine till it stalls or does it just feel like its not running right??

Car was running fine. Sat for a month or so while they were moving to a new house. On the way to the new house the car simply stopped... no signs, nothing. Cranked fine but no start.
They called a flat bed and took it home. A few days later and a new fuel filter.... nothing... started for a few minutes and then shut off.
Maybe fuel pressure regulator? -could be just enough to hold an idle.
I will ask him to check the grounds-the injectors may not be getting enough juice to open enough and also to check the coil (may be breaking down with any kind of load).

it really sounds like an Electrical issue. Time to sit down with the volt meter and maybe check to see what happens when you rev up the engine... (put the volt meter on the coil) check to see wahts going on with the voltage to the fuel pump as well.... (im thinking ingition failure...)

Had same problem, it was the DME Relay. It was intermittent, then completely crapped out. Put a new one in if you haven't already. Then proceed. They are fairly cheap ($30-35).

I had a problem with my car stalling and finally not starting at all. I replaced the fuel filter, the dme relay and had the circuit board reflowed, but replacing the head temp relay finally did the trick. No more problems (knock on wood). ric

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I'm Wachuko's buddy with the stalling problem. I'm still waiting fo the DME relay to replace it but in the meantime have done a couple of other troubleshooting steps.
I replaced fuse #11 and immediately got the car to start, but stalled after idling for a while. I tried to start it again and it wouldn't start immediately. It started after waiting for a couple of minutes.
Is there a sensor that could affect the idling? Any other clues????

its possible that the O2 Sensor could be failing as well... maybe check/replace this and see if that helps...
there was a previous thread that was posted to order one specifically from a porsche dealer because of a extended rubber boot (to keep water out)
hope that helps.
