Block sanding followed by second primer before loading onto spit to work on the underside.

You may wonder why the underside has not already been prepared for paint? Well, this was simply due to the time of year the job was done, the cold weather causes condensation on fresh metal so we were keen to protect the new panels and welds as soon as we could. This also gives the second coat of primer another couple of weeks to harden which is ideal to ensure a stable surface for the top coats of paint.

Thanks Ray.

The floor pan detailing came next, against the initial expectations of the owner. The floor was in remarkable condition considering the rot we found everywhere else, however there were small patches of rust that we had to address, along with reinforcing the rear ARB brackets and replacing the wiring harness tabs around the rear seat pans. As mentioned previously, we would have normally done this before primer but for the cold, damp weather coming in when the shell was in bare metal.

After masking up the rest of the car, a little detail grit blasting, welding, etch & primer had the floor looking like it always should be.

Underside detail etched, so now it's full underside primer followed by fine line masking for the edge of the spray on stone chip (underseal).

The interior is brush sealed along the panel to panel seams with some localised spray sealer around the rear seat pans.

Once the spray sealer has dried we can paint everything on the shell aside from the exterior panels. Naturally this is best done on the rotisserie so that Wayne does not have to fight gravity to paint the roof.

So what's the colour? The customer found samples in the old Porsche colour books and wanted the 1972 Birch Green, a shade or two darker than the typical Lime Green (aka Chartreuse). Since none of our paint suppliers had a formulation we mixed our own shades, sprayed them out and picked the closest to the sample. Where there is a will, there is a way!
