Default Looking for 69-73 911S coupe

First a quick "Hello," as I'm new to this forum. If I've posted this in the wrong area or committed any other Rennlist faux pas, please accept my apologies. I'm wondering if any of you either know of a particular car or are able to point me in the right direction.

What I'm looking for is a 911S 2.2 or 2.4 coupe in very good condition (preferably a California car). I've tried several online classified services and checked all of the listings here, but have yet to find a nice car. I recently subscribed to the Porsche Market Letter, but won't receive my first issue for another 10 days or so. Can anyone with a subscription tell me if there are any cars listed for sale that fit this description?

Any assistance at all is appreciated. Thanks!

Good luck in your search...I've enjoyed my early S for 29 years now...still waiting for Porsche to make something more enjoyable.

Thank you both for your replies. I'm going to look at this car on Wednesday: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=10156

Can you give me any advice as to what I should look for and what you think this car is worth?

Thanks!

I know that finding clean pre '74 cars is very difficult. If the condition is as stated, an origanal "S" in similar shape would be about double what the $15k is that hasn't been met.

No matter what, if you agree to buy this or any 911, no matter what the owner says, get it checked out at a good shop before you give him a cent.

Good luck

Wayne,

I second Paul's comment, the early cars are some of Porsche's finest. There are no early S cars for sale in this issuse of PML. There is a lengthy thread on the Black '70 S that you are going to see, on the Pelican board. The board is down right now or I would post a link. The main site is: www.pelicanparts.com

Check the 911 Technical board later today for this discussion. Be sure to hang out on the early911sregistry.org site. Lots of good stuff there about the early cars. Good hunting!

Very sweet cars. Very hard to find. If there's one for sale here in Sweden word is out in two seconds and price is very high, even for cars in questionable shape. The situation is the same all over Europe, I believe in the US as well.

cheers

There's a nice sounding '73 s for sale in the ads here. It seems really cheap.

Here's a link to the web site of Dave Olimpi:

http://www.daveolimpiautomobiles.com

He can locate cars, sell your car on consignment, or perform a variety of other services (see the "Automotive Services" section on his site).

Dave is a very nice guy, very knowledgeable and gets some real top-notch cars. He personally owns a 1970 911 T, and it looks like he just sold an excellent '73 911 S.

I should note that I have no business affiliation with Dave, nor do I stand to make any profit from this advertisement, I just thought some on this board might be interested.

Paul,

If he was able to sell that car for $45K then you could trade your car even up for a nice RS don't you think?

Welcome back to the boards Brian, I thought it was you. Well, I could sell, and perhaps be close to the price of a rough RS touring. But weird as it sounds, with so many RS clones about, I'm not as hot for a real RS as I once thought I was.

I think $45 was the asking price for that -- I doubt it sold for that, even though it was an exceptional car. A car in that condition is fairly unique, and probably worth a 10% premium over the "excellent" value given in Excellence magazine (or maybe more).

Also, I believe that car was on consignment, since it was located in Pennsylvania and Dave is in Virginia. The owner set a high price I'm sure, and then Dave has to make a commission as well.

I do wonder how much they got though, because it looked like a really nice example...

Does anybody know what Excellence lists the value as? Is a '72 S worth more because of the unique oil filler? I actually prefer the '72 for that reason, and because it has more chrome, but of course I'd love either one!
