Question Value of a 1980 SC Weissach?

Is the 1980 911 SC Weissach model worth more than a stock SC. If so how much more? What would one in good condition and app. 50k miles be worth?

What exactly is different about a Weissach as I've never heard of one . Is it a model for the American market only?

IIRC, they were built in 1980 only - a standard 911 SC with special paint colors, factory spoilers, and a couple other odds and ends (Ill have to look in the book when I get home).

They shouldnt command much over a stock SC according to the prices. If one would pay $12,000 for a really nice 1980 SC, a WE might get $14,000 in the same condition.

When they came out with the 928 Weissach, the production was limited to only 205. It also came with matching leather luggage and the interior was all leather as well. If the 911 production was limited to a very small number and had all of the options, I would guess that it could go for a good amount more to the right buyer.

A "really nice" SC for only $12,000? Perhaps our definitions of really nice are different, but the cars I've seen for $12,000 don't look really nice to me.

The Weissach SC was built only for the 1980 US market and 408 cars were built with this option. Special paint was part of this package. 1/2 were in Black Metallic and the other half were in Platinum Metallic. Interior was full leather in Doric Grey with Burgundy piping. Front and rear spoilers were standard. The rear spoiler was similar to what was on the SC for those years (not a Turbo or Carrera tail).

They are beautiful cars. I agree with Stuttgart's assesment that a nice WE SC could bring a few thousand more than a comparible SC of the same age and condition. Though, it is virtually impossible to find two SC's in the same condition that are for sale at the same time in the same region, so pricing can be hit and miss.

Speedracer: Your region really seems to come into play on resale values of the older cars now. People from the east coast seem to have higher values on their cars where as Midwest cars might be a bit lower. There were a few posts over the winter months regarding people purchasing apparently nice SC's with typical mileage in the low teen's.

So assume that a "really nice SC" owner is asking $14-15K and a "really nice" WE SC is asking $16-17K.

Actually, I'm not talking about asking prices. Perhaps our interpretations of "really nice" differ. The cars I've seen recently that have been purchased for around $12,000 have roughly 100,000 miles and are good, average cars. The really nice ones, which have lower mileage and are in great shape (better than "nice") are still selling (not just asking) for considerably more than $12,000. There aren't many of these, but you know them when you see them.

I just bought a weissach for 8000.00, it has 160,000 miles runs very well, needs paint, and minor cosmetic attention.

The definition of "really nice" is pretty subjective, and very meaningless.

I agree with Speedraser. SC coupes being sold for $12k, at least in the D.C. area, are average at best -- and they most likely need a couple of grand worth of work.

A good SC will usually sell for $16-17k. Outstanding examples are becoming much more rare, and it is hard to place a value on them, but they're probably between $18-$20k+. I'm talking concours cars here, or at least near that.

A Weissach edition is probably worth 10% more, on average.

Just remember, you get what you pay for. $10k for a 911SC may sound like a good deal, but lots of little things broken or worn can add up to big $$$ fast. Unless you can do a lot of work yourself, you're better off buying a better example that's a few thousand more. It will save you in the long run.

IMO:

Concourse: These cant really be nailed down in terms of value. The right buyer will pay a large sum. Low mileage, not a single scratch, "as new" or very, very close.

Nice: Average mileage (100,000K or so) with all the usual work (brakes, valves, clutch) taken care of. Maybe even an engine or tranny rebuild. Clean paint (9/10) and clean interior (9/10) No major scratches or paint chips, no rips/tears in interior. A great example of a driver.

Average: Above average mileage, clean but perhaps worn interior, maybe in need of a clutch or other major maint. Fine driver or track car.

Poor: We all know them when we see them.

Im basing my pricing on what I see in the Northeast primarily. For reference, I bought my 88 Carrera with 97,000 miles, clutch, G50 update, brakes, new tires, many odds and ends around the car (rubber, badges, sound system, alarm) service just performed, perfect interior and 9/10 exterior (can count stone ships on two hands), compression and leakdown as spec from factory, NO smoke, and NO oil leaks for $17,000.

I would not pay more than $14K for a "nice" late SC, and at $14K Im expecting it needs nothing.
