This week I do the engine cooling mod to the cylinder air guides, and I put the finishing touch on the front end of the car, by restoring and installing the bonnet badge.

So I have had to sit the Porsche to the side as I am still waiting on engine parts, but that means it is time for me to start the build on my 1971 Datsun 240Z.
This weeks video is about 50/50 Porsche and Datsun. I first needed to replace the front wheel bearings on the 911 so I could put wheels on it and move it out of the way. I then got into doing a stocktake on my Z to see what it needed, and start formulating a plan for the build.
I realise these will not be Porsche videos for a while, but you can follow the Datsun build on YouTube if you are interested. I can also possibly start another thread on here with the Datsun build if people are interested.
Here is the episode.

I thought it was time to compile a video on how far I have come. The engine is still waiting on some very nice custom parts to be finished, but here is where we are up to.

I'm the hold up. By the end of this week, hopefully the only thing left will be the cam decks.
Here is what we have been doping for Jeff.
Case. Bringing that back to life, cleaned, crack checked, repaired the head stud threaded bores, cylinder base surfaces and equalized, through bolt spot faced and chamfered, oil by pass done, dowel pinned, lapped and line bored.
Crankshaft. crack checked, straightened, rod journals repaired, journals polished, oil galley plugs removed, and threaded, balanced, ultrasonically cleaned
Rods. Crack checked, straight checked, SE bushings replaced, bored and pin fitted. New bolts and BE re sized, shot peened, ultrasonically cleaned
Pistons. Completely new lightweight design for a Piston to fit this early engine. Departure from what is typically sold for these early engines. Pin size, compression height, ring pack, forging are all new.
Cylinders. Crack checked, replated and sealing system machined.
Heads. Crack checked, stud bores repaired, new guides and seat inserts fitted, seats cut , valves fitted, vacuum tested, sealing system machined, retainer heights measured, spring set pressures set, assembled.
Cams. New lobe design completed, (big departure from what has being done typically, more modern)cams cut.
Rocker arms. Magnufluxed, rocker faces hard chromed and ground back to original radius dimension so rocker arm geometry is as designed. New solid bushings fitted and pin fitted to new shafts
Oil pump. Rebuilt Turbo pump supplied with new scavenge gear design.
Cam decks. In progress.
EFI. Wiring diagram drawn and system designed with knock control. In progress.
More to come.
