My New 911SC
So I finally pulled the trigger on a 1980 Porsche 911 SC. It has been in storage -- nice and dry, for the last 15 years. The PO had a broken head-bolt and, as he was a Honda mechanic at the time, felt he could make the repair and pulled the engine and transmission. Two kids, and a few career changes later he decided to sell. The car is now with, who I have recently learned, one of the top indy Porsche shops in Indiana to get a top end overhaul, transmission rebuild, clutch, brake system rebuild, fuel pump, CV joints, battery and tires. I am brand new to Porsche's and my problem is I don't know what I don't know. I need and welcome any advice this forum can offer. The car has 105,000 miles and to my eye looks to be in excellent condition.

Well done! Head studs are a common potential issue with SCs, but clearly the top indy porsche shop would know that very well, so I think you're covered there.

I love my 80 Weissach (SC). Seems you are hitting all the important intems. How about the chain tensioner upgrade?
From researching aircooled upgrades and to significantly improve sound and some performance of the 3.0 l engine, you might want to consider SSI heat exchangers and new exhaust, or make that something for the future.
My Weissach is still stock except for previous owner radio upgrade, but the SSI exchanger and exhaust is very tempting.

No... I was originally looking for a 996 and was calling around looking for a indy that would do a PPI and any future work I may need. The indy I called said he didn't work on water-cooled engines, only air-cooled. When he found out where I was calling from he said he had talked to a guy that week, who fairly close to me, and was looking to repair or sell and was planning on bringing the car to him to help him sell it or possibly repair. The indy gave me seller''s number, I called the seller, he sent me pictures and I told him I was interested. The seller took to car to the indy and I went to look at it. Indy said it was the nicest "put back" together car he has seen in 30 years and said if I didn't buy he would have a long list of buyers that would jump on it. Closed the deal Sunday night.

Your first 911? Sadly, things seldom go as quoted. Especially with cars out of service for such a long time. We'll also keep our fingers crossed, and keep us posted if you need second-to-99th opinions.

Agreed... I suspect once they tear into it you'll find all sorts of things that need work. I just bought a 52k mile car. Creampuff. As they're going through there's always lots of this and that. You have triple the mileage and it's been in storage. Like I said above, you'll still have a great deal even if you put a little more money in the car.

I would rather not say what the car, or the repairs cost individually. Since the seller is a member of Reenlist someone may recognize the car and know who the seller is and what they let the car go for, or at some point in this thread someone may ask who the indy is and I wouldn't want to be advertising his costs to me with the public. I will however share any additional costs I run into and provide my total cost.
