What's is so special about this car?
So I was "window" shopping on the Internet and I was wondering what is so special about this car? Just curious.

A Carrera Vin.
Well, that's the perception, though I don't know that it really matches reality. US Carreras are mostly a trim package because they didn't get the MFI engine that the ROW cars got. In the last couple years even the US version cars have taken off, kind of like the RS Americas have. This may be the highest one I've seen yet. I've seen quite a few in the 70s and 80s but a buck fifty? I think that's a reach even though it does appear to be a nice car and I know the shop selling it and respect them.

If its the 2.7 MFI Carrera then its the same as the 73 RS and about 100k underpriced (if its a solid no story car) but if its the 2.7 CIS version (likely given the price) then not really special and probably priced based on association with its euro brother the 2.7MFI.

They are neat cars. I've come really close to buying a 74 twice in the last year. I call it a trim package but they do actually have some unique features. The first couple hundred '74s got real 73RS rear fenders, for example. The tunnel is also reinforced on them. But they still didn't get the engine. The MFI engine is the real thing that defines a Carrera, IMO.

1469 in 1974 and 395 in 1975, for the US coupe.

US car production was:
528 coupes and 246 Targas for 1974
395 coupes and 174 Targas for 1975
The car pictured above has the wrong mirrors and wheels for those model years. Given the extraordinary asking price, I would expect far more attention paid to such details to justify the dollars. Makes me wonder what else isn't original.

Woops. My 74 number was pulled off the wrong line of the Redbook. I was looking at Row numbers. My bad.
Steve's one of my first calls when I am trying to buy one of these cars. Right buddy?

Big difference between US and ROW. Euro 2.7 MFI are $200-300K all day long. US '74 CIS Carraras, however, are collectable... but not $100K collectable... my guess is this guy is sucker-fishing...

Exactly Matt. That's where the 'magic' is. I will say though a good friend has a CIS '74 Carrera that has an excellent set up and it is very fun to drive, mainly I think because those chassis were still pretty light. Agreed this car is no doubt over priced.
If you want to know all there is to know about the '70s MFI Carreras pick up the second edition 'Carrera RS' and Ryan's new book about the Carrera 2,7 list at his site in the link above. Can't wait for my copy to arrive.
