1987 911 salvage need advice on the value
#16
I don't know the VIN on an 87 Turbo, so I'd go on the Turbo thread.
But, my humble advice... a pristine 87 Turbo is probably a $100K+ car in today's market... but this is hardly a pristine car... sounds like street wh*re, and you can dump $40-50K into it, and still have a salvage car, so, if your goal is a resto-mod, and you are willing to put $100K into it, then it's your decision.
But you are unlikely to ever get your money back, or else you are likely to get your money back.

Did anyone post up the Ebay ad from the prior seller? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...-/161654313976
No time to look up if it's a 930 VIN, but no '87 930 came stock with a G50.
Hard call on 930s these days.........

That car is going to easily clear $50k. Europeans don't care about branded titles like we do. If someone here doesn't buy it and rebuild it, it will find a home back in the motherland.
With current run up in prices and the cars just getting older, the S title thing just isn't going to sting like it used to. There's 7 figure Ferraris out there that were balled up hard. S title 911S cars from the 60's are taking very little discount. Condition, condition, condition. It's king as they get older.
And I put my money where my mouth is. The 74 I am picking up in LA at the end of a month is on an S title. I took very little discount on the car because of the title. I got a big discount because of the 935 slantnose conversion. But by the time it gets home, that will be gone and I'll have a 74 hot rod that I don't worry about my ability to sell later. When the time comes down the road someone will see the value of what the car is as it sits and not what some piece of paper says. My car was a theft recovery and not hit. You can see it when you inspect it.

Yes, an "S" title on a full collectable is not a deal killer if you are prepared to do a full, documented restoration, or you just want a "hot rod".
Just understand that you are going to put big $$$ into it, and be prepared to eat it if you have to.

Full hotrod for me. I'm prepared to put $$$. But I'm having my doubts about this car. $30k maybe too much for this one as it has previous title issues. This won't be the first time it's salvaged.

As I said, it's stupid money, and believe me, you'll be into it for over $100K, so if that's what you want, don't agonize about $2K on the purchase price... that's tip money...
Good luck, and send pictures... we love spending OPM.

Well, when the car was sold for $44k it ran. Now, it was in the auction because of an electrical fire. I suppose at least $10k in damage. And, the car had prior salvage history, and odometer issues.
$57k for that car is absolutely NUTS!!
I love the 930 but c'mon. It's no f-40 or something. Who ever paid $57k for that car needs to get their head examined.
