Blown Clutch?!

weird. so the shift action was bad due to the linkage.
but what blew the clutch? trying to get it up the hill with the balky shift action?
is the clutch not disengaging? is it slipping?
others here will know better but preliminary quotes for me, I will need one at some point as action is getting balky on the pedal but not slipping - was about 10 hours labor + the parts (if I recall correctly) - engine out - which for me means a laundry list of 'while in there' stuff...

Dealerships around me are closer to 175 /hr
Find a good Indy. I'm sure nym is as bad as SoCal with dealer pricing.

I bet your right, i'm very out of touch with dealership rates. I think my Indy is $100hr and very well trusted. It will probably be worth the 150mile flatbed charge to get it there in comparison.

The clutch was probably on its way out.
My guess is you're north of $2000 to do it RIGHT. PP, Clutch, TB, I'd do flywheel if original.....and there are so many while you're in theres, that it would be a crime not to do a good go-through.

When I had my 1987 Targa, I had it done around 83k miles. My 1989 Targa was done right before I bought it two years ago at about 73k miles. Both were about $2,300 for everything.

To answer a few questions above and Ed below....
I don't have AAA, so probably have to pay the $70 and $5 per mile I was originally quoted for the flat bedding.
I am going to seek out another source in the Hamptons, but really only trust Cheech as of now. However, it sucks to have to flatbed all that $ / mileage to him. Anybody here have any Hamptons or other LI recommendations? I am also going to ask Metro PCA members, that are based out there.
Ed,
I think you are right, cause one abusive 30' run up the steep portion of driveway in 3rd, probably shouldn't have fried it. I noticed a little chatter here and there off the line few days earlier, so that was probably the first sign of it going. How long do they typically last anyway, based on normal usage? Since I am green w/ this type of air cooled engine work, what does PP and TB stand for?

Friend, relative, etc anyone with AAA can get your car towed... they just have to be there and present the card... Worth a dinner :-)

Sugarwood, I just joined as a premier member of AAA! Includes 200 miles of free towing, thanks for the tip!
Thanks Ed for that explanation, makes sense...

Sarge when you get the clutch done take a close look at that clutch fork . I know my SC has an updated beefier version available. Not sure if it was already done on the Carrera
