Default Thoughts on this 1982 SC?

This is a 1982 911SC, has 93k miles, Mostly original. One weird thing is the Matte black wrap. First time I've seen an aircooled porsche get wrapped. Seems a bit fishy. Original color is wine red metallic. I would need to uncover the wrap to see the paint condition. Can you guys help me? Worth it? seems like the body is straight, though I have no idea about the paint condition. Will have to check it.

If the mechanical aspects of the car was well maintained, Do you think I should go for that car? (after a ppi).

Need another pair of eyes! and thanks!

Understand the cars of that era were delivered with 85MPH speedos. I swapped out too many to remember in the mid-late '80s, the owners seldom wanting to match the old odo's reading. Records would be everything. Quick visual clue is that that driver's seat sure lived a hard life.

Not bad if you like:

A different color wrap-probably hiding a crappy paint job
warped dash
well worn seats & carpet
Crunched rocker panels on both sides (oil lines damaged too?)
Any photos of the engine

Spend a little bit more for an 84 with an engine rebuild

I ran away too much xD

But seriously, SCs are becoming so hard to come by? Anybody know where can I find a 911SC for sale? Pelican, eBay, rennlist; nothing over there worth it.
Got an SC for sale?

Have you thought about looking at a Cayman or Boxster?

I spotted a few 2009 models around $30K, close to the price of an SC.

I was thinking about selling mine but my kids will not allow it.

Pull US spec 85 MPH speedo, install ROW speedo. If bought new, it will come with zero miles. As I said above, few rolled them up to 15-75K miles to match the odometer reading of the gauge pulled.

There was a period where US law said all cars sold here had to have an 85mph speedometer. The logic was it would reduce speeding and high speed accidents. It was common for owners to install the RoW speedo on there cars. The issue is that unit also contains the odometer. Unless the switch was documented, a swapped speedo is a good way to lie about actual mileage on an old car.

A different kind of world with the Boxster and Cayman. Not that its bad kind of world. But I would like to start with an aircooled 911SC. Classic, aircooled, and simple. Been shoping for aircooled porsches for the last months. Though did not really have the money. Now I do, I would like to enter the aircooled world.

Its a giant leap to start the first porsche with an SC, But thats the risk I want to take.

Unless it's documented I don't believe the ODO reading on any antique car. If it's a 5 digit odometer, forgetaboutit.

Both of our old 100,000 miles + cars are documented. One of them could probably pass for the mileage indicated on the odometer.

That's no reason to buy on that's not good or will cost a lot to get good. Be patient until you get the one you want.

In addition to the sites you listed, you can check the classifieds on Samba.

You can also look on Craigslist.

Here are a couple on Excellence:

Took me a little over a year. Then ended up finding two cars in one week. Just keep looking. You'll find a good car.
