But in 2 years? I'm happy to bet that the prices will be up. There are always highs and lows but what makes a car have value is not a transient thing. I remember a massive drop in the prices of E-types about 10 years ago or so and people saying that it was a correction that would continue on a downward trend. Didn't.

In two years sure I can see the prices up a bit. We just aren't going to have another wave where the values magically double over that short of a time span like they have these past two years. The bubble went up and up and up and now it's losing helium. IMO this can clearly be seen in the current disparity of the market. I'll provide an example.

Take that first listing. It's an enigma. Dude is obviously on drugs. We are nowhere close to G50 3.2's being worth $100K. Take the second example. $70k for a G50? Nah....not yet. Sure it's pretty to look at but, at 100k less miles in comparison to my third example, it's not worth over DOUBLE the price of the other 88 simply because they detailed it well.

To me these three cars show just how out of whack the market currently is with no baseline at all with regards to pricing. Dealers are still in the "I'm going to make up a number off the top of my head and list it that" state of mind and that was something that worked 12 months ago. It's not working anymore which is why the cars are sitting longer and longer and sustaining multiple price drops before moving.

Well, yeah - cars are not worth what they're offered at but rather what they sell for. I think the trend will be a nice steady rise but you never know. As with the E-types there was a sharp drop off and then in a year or so there was another equally sharp rise and then they just kept going up from there.

Who knows though, the market isn't the same. If it were the 911 cabriolets would be demanding the premiums like the E-type convertibles do.

I think prices will level off. I do think the days of the $12K SC. the $18K 3.2s and 964s won't be returning anytime soon though.

Oh those days are loooong gone.

Here is another perfect example of the disparity and zero baseline on pricing going on. One year difference, literally almost the same exact mileage, yet miraculously $25k apart in price. Exactly how is the silver worth $70k? Logically it makes zero sense. Let's make up a large number in my head, throw it out there and see if there's actually a sucker that bites.

It isn't, but sellers (and especially, dealers) NEVER set an asking price near what they expect to get.

That is precisely how dealers set asking prices. They know darn well they aren't likely to get anything close to that, but once in a while suckers do come along.

I've been watching the market for 12 years and although prices are much higher now, dealer pricing strategy hasn't changed. Their asking prices have always been ridiculous.

There will always be crazy prices just like how people have been saving old cars that are rusted out covered by a tarp and they think it's a gold mine just because it's a Porsche.

The proper low mileage, clean 911 will always be worth all the money.

All that said, the bubble is somewhat deflating now.
