Those were opportunities. Went through them too. I think the same will happen to these cars and you could grab another for a great price. Bubble or not there are too many flippers in the market for my comfort. It's the "bigger fool theory" of investing. If I am wrong then we all benefit from the continued rise. Either way it's good for us

I don't think values will decline heavily - maybe plateau for a bit. However, if they do drop I will pounce on another car for the stable. I hope values drop! I am not looking to sell anytime soon anyway.

There were more (1960's) Mercedes's 300 SLs made than 964 Targa's. Who knows where these cars will end up.

Yep... at a recent car show, I was repeatedly approached by a "youngish" guy who made offers for my '87 black/black M491 coupe. His offers, may or may not have been credible, but they were well "over market," and he was obviously in love with the car. Just the same, I'm not selling... probably not for a long, long time.

I have had quite a few offers on my Cassis Red car too.

Its nice that prices have appreciated so much but there is a down side too.

I like to drive my cars. At $25k or $30k for a nice one I dont worry about the valuation or the ability to replace it so much. At $50k or more I have to think twice about it and also think about the mods I make.

Sort of takes some of the fun out of it.

You want to know how I resolved that one? I went out and bought an S title theft recovery 74 with a 3.2 swap. Drives like a scalded cat and I don't have to worry about any sort originality concerns. This car is mine all mine.

I have been kicking around the same sort of idea. I just need to unload a couple cars first. Ideally I would go after a driver 964 but the prices are silly even for a driver these days. I have looked at a couple of driver SC's. My dilemma is, knowing myself I'll end up putting way too much time and money into one which would kill the purpose of buying it in the first place.

I think the 911 market will stabilize for a while. A lot of the money moved to the Alfa market a few months back. Now they're overheated.

What's the next hot market?

btw - We're learning more about the art market every day since the release of the Panama Papers. How much of the money that came into the Porsche market was laundered through Panama?

I can't wait until someone looks at Miami.

I wouldn't discount the 928 market. A lot of collectors I know are buying GTS's and some other rare versions.

We all knew that the "bubble" in prices was created with laundered money. The goal was not to collect Porsches but rather it was to evade taxes. We all pretended that old Porsches had real value.

What we all missed was how huge tax evasion efforts really were. Never forget that a 911 RSR. or a 550, is an undocumented hard asset. It can be moved around the world with no record. it can be transferred from one owner to another with no documentation.

The art world knew this was going no - they just didn't now the extent that it was happening.

The art world at least is facing up to this. The collector car world not so much.

btw - Who knew that Wyoming was a great place to park dirty money?

if there is ever a burst, it is not going to be pretty.... look at the prices the "common cars" are fetching nowadays...
