Air Cooled Bubble?

I think that prices are softening a bit and it will take a while for the new bottom to settle in. This is a fairly normal dynamic in the collector car world. However, I think that demand will continue to be strong over time for both air cooled and pre 2012/13 water cooled 911 versions up and through 997.2 911's, whereby buyers are seeking the classic 911 experience (pre - VW Group Ownership Cars).
Since the 2012/13 991.1 911, seems like more and more of a VW Group influence in design, manufacturing, marketing, etc. Look at all of the non 911 Porsche products today: Panamera, SUVs, now all cross sharing Audi/VW chassis platforms , engines and tech. Cayman / Boxters soon to follow if not sharing already. The only new Porsche distinctions from VW group brands is coming down to body style, performance tweaks and of course brand marketing. Only a matter of time before 911's are thrown into the cross platform efficiency models at VW Group .
So, my opinion is that the pre VW Group year cars both air and water cooled will continue to be more and more special , unique , desired, rare and in demand with values following accordingly.

I like this. I never really considered it before.
It's sort of like Ferraris pre-Fiat.
Something to think about.

There is a local with a absolutely PERFECT 993 Turbo S around here that I followed to a parking lot like a creep, once. He was more than exited to see my excitement.

Couldn't agree more. I've been heavily shopping for my first 911 these past few months and have narrowed it down to a SC, 3.2 or 964. I'm keeping an eye on pretty much everything I see hit the web and A LOT of inventory is sitting right now or has been relisted multiple times with dropping prices. Only the really amazing concourse or near concourse cars are selling immediately for their asking prices with little negotiation. Honestly as eager as I am to get my first p-car I'm going to continue to hold off for another few months because my intuition tells me the market will definitely continue to trend downwards.

Over the short term, sure. It will be a good time to buy. But I remember nearly this exact same thing going on with the Jag E types. 5-10 years from now I think this will be considered the last best opportunity for these cars.

Just one persons opinion...I have been logging prices of aircooled coupes (sc thru 993) for the last 2+ years as Ive searched for cars, and I am shocked to see the prices continuing to appreciate. You could always stumble onto a great buy regarding lower price than the market if patient or just lucky; I realize its hard to tell what cars are actually selling for vs. listing prices.
I've also spoken to the indy dealers over this timeframe and they are definitely not lowering prices and infact are asking even more for aircooled cars than before many with an extra 10-20 k miles on them.
GLW your search.
