My auto heater unit is shot and I DON'T want to spend $1K to get another. Has anyone ever done an auto to manual conversion? I found the following article, but there's not too much to go on.
I recently made the switch from auto to manual. It was easier than I thought it would be.
Swapped out the entire parking brake lever at Einmalig. Yes, Brian has dozens more good used levers.
That's exactly what I want to do! Any tips, instructions, or additional parts needed you can share would be appreciated! Also, what is Einmalig? How do I get in touch with Brian?
The only part of this that made me crazy was when pushing the new wires down the boden (sp) tubes. There is a funky insert in the tube where it transitions from the chassy to the flexible tube leading to the flapper boxes. Pull the tube and guide the wire in by hand. ....and grease the wire before you start.
How clean are your flapper boxes? You may want new springs at hardware. I had found new boxes on craigslist for dirt cheap.

I don't know - yet. I pulled that POS control box out last night when I was working in the interior. I can't wait to replace my carpet. The original is a complete mess. I also look forward to installing a manual heat switch like you have. It really cleans up/simplifies the interior.
Call Bob at AppBiz for the carpet. I went black Perlon felt and love it. If you are trying to remain a bit more stock he has that too.
Already called him! I was actually contemplating going with grey Perlon. It's either that or black. I have to decide which will go better with my interior. I like the beige, but my cars are drivers and that light tan won't cut it. It will just get dirty and upset me.
I also emailed Brian about the heater/hand brake parts!
The Perlon is very light weight and will show wear quicker than the Sliverknit.
I used a thin layer of felt sound pad under mine and ended up with a lower noise level in my cab than with my stock carpet. Very pleased with it.
Speaking of sound level, I wrapped my cat in aircraft grade header wrap. Made a huge change. Crossover pipe is next. We can actually talk inside the car now....not that I want to.

Well I really like the direction your interior is going. I can't wait to really dig into mine cause it's an eyesore. Most of the interior work will be fun. I'm not looking forward to the dash at all. I'll probably have to farm that out as I think the glass has to be removed.
I've already removed the cat and I'm running a complete bypass. My car is LOUD on the inside - but I don't care about talking either. I just want a Porsche hot rod when I'm done. Something to cruise around town and get the dogs barking.
What is wrong with your dash? My dash, kick pad, and door tops are still blue and look great against the black RSR doors and carpet. Soon I'll have seats....well, by this time next year. Right now I'm working on '78 930 brakes.
