It's leather and has shrunk beyond imagination. The car has seen some sun light, that's for sure.

Ah, yes it may be time for a change. Mine must not be leather.
You will find the carpet adhesive at Pep Boys. Will take maybe 4 cans. Practice holding the can back away further than what would seem normal to give the web time to spread and open up. Use plenty and let it sit and get tacky before you lay the carpet down. Lots of extra carpet on each piece that has to be trimmed. Start in the back and work forward. If you do screw up a part, I have several extra yards of black and even have extra edge welting. Bob' guys through in a gas filler flap and lots of extras when I got my carpet and door cards.
